Niklas Alexander Backman (born November 13, 1988 in Västerås ) is a Swedish football player . The defender made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2011 .
Career
Backman started playing football at Skiljebo SK in his hometown. For the club he made his debut as a junior player in the competition team and rose with her to the third-class Division 1 . There he convinced in the 2007 season , although the club was relegated directly. Then courted by several higher-class clubs, he joined the second division promoted Väsby United in the Superettan . In his debut season he was in the starting line-up in all 30 games of the season and helped the club to stay in league as a table ninth. After he had trained with cooperation partner AIK in preparation for the first division season in 2009 , the club brought him to the first division squad on loan in the summer of that year. While the club won the double of national championship title and cup victory , he remained without playing for AIK. Due to his age, however, he was still eligible to play for Väsby United due to the cooperation agreement, so that he ultimately played in 26 league games for the team. He had also played in the Swedish U-21 national team , for which he made his debut in March 2009. Behind Joel Ekstrand , Marcus Nilsson and Martin Olsson , however, he was usually only left with the role of substitute player.
In January 2010 Backman signed a three-year contract with AIK. In preparation for and at the start of the 2010 season, mainly supplementary players, he won a regular place a short time later. After the departure of several top performers in the championship team, he slipped into the relegation battle with the club. While three different coaches, Mikael Stahre , Björn Wesström and Alex Miller , were responsible for looking after the team, he performed well. So he was one of the guarantors of relegation and rewarded by national coach Erik Hamrén with a nomination for the first international games in 2011 of the senior national team . He was in the starting line-up in the 2-1 win against Botswana on January 19. In the following years he was an undisputed regular player in the club team and was part of the national team for the January international matches in 2012 and 2013.
Backman injured his knee in March 2013, so that he missed the start of the 2013 season. Although he returned to training at the end of April, the injury caused him further problems in early May. He only returned to regular play in July, and by the end of the season he played ten games for the club in the Allsvenskan. In January 2014, he returned to the national team when he was nominated to replace his injured teammate Per Karlsson .
Backman left AIK in February 2014 and joined the Chinese club Dalian Aerbin . There he immediately became a regular under coach Lin Ma , and he scored his first goal in the Chinese Super League in July 2014 in a 2-1 home win against Shanghai Shenxin .
