Aleksandras Žilinskas (born September 15, 1885 in Veiveriai , Marijampolė District , Russian Empire ; † January 21, 1942 in Kriwoscheino , Tomsk Oblast , Soviet Union ) was a Lithuanian lawyer and politician, Justice Minister of Lithuania .

Life

Aleksandras Žilinskas studied at the grammar schools in Marijampolė and Kaunas , at the teacher training college in Veiveriai . After that, he graduated in law at the Law Faculty of the University of Tartu ( Estonia ) and studied at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He was Justice of the Peace of Kaunas. At the end of 1919 he was Deputy Minister of the Interior and from 1924 a member of the Kaunas District Court . From February 1928 he was Minister of Justice in the 14th government of Augustinas Voldemaras (after Stasys Šilingas ) and from September 1929 to June 1934 in the 15th government of Juozas Tūbelis . He then works as a notary in Kaunas.

In June 1941 he was arrested by the NKVD and sent with his son to Tomsk Oblast , where he died in hospital because of pneumonia .
