Stasys Šilingas (born November 23, 1885 in Vilnius , † November 13, 1962 in Kelmė ) was a Lithuanian lawyer and politician .

Life

In 1905 Stasys Šilingas graduated from the 1st grammar school in Vilnius and studied in Moscow , Russia. There he was involved in the Lithuanian clubs. In 1912 he graduated from Moscow University with a law degree and came to Lithuania . In 1918 he was a member of Lietuvos Valstybės taryba . 1920–1926 he was a lawyer in Kaunas . From 1922 he was a member of the Seimas as a representative of Lietuvos ūkininkų sąjunga . From December 1926 he was minister and headed the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania (under the direction of Augustinas Voldemaras , from 1934 to 1938 under Juozas Tūbelis ).

In June 1941 he was arrested by the Soviets. Then he spent more than 10 years in the camp of the Krasnoyarsk Territory without penalty . It was not until 1952 that he was punished by the MGB . Only after his appointment in 1954 did he come to Lithuania in June. In July 1954 he was deported again. He made it to the Zhytomyr Oblast ( Ukrainian SSR ) home for the disabled . He did not return to Lithuania until 1961.

His grandfather had the title of Count, which was then revoked in Tsarist Russia.

In 1911, Stasys Šilingas married Emilija Bytautaitė, the sister of his friend Ramūnas Bytautas, and had 9 daughters.
