Özcan Melkemichel (born February 21, 1968 ) is a Swedish football coach . With Syrianska FC and AFC Eskilstuna he rose to the Allsvenskan .

Career

Melkemichel began playing football at the age of ten at Syrianska FC, which was then still under the name Suryoyo FC, and five years later he made his debut in 1983 in the club's adult team. With the team he rose in the following years from the sixth division to the third highest division, which was reached at the beginning of the 1990s. In 1992 he ended his active career, but he remained with the club in various positions as sports director, simple board member and temporarily as club president.

In 2003 Melkemichel took over the coaching position at Syrianska FC for the first time, when he initially replaced the unsuccessful Igor Ponomaryov in the relegation battle in the third division. After successfully avoiding relegation, he remained responsible in the following season and led the team to fifth place in the table. In order to qualify for Division 1, which was newly introduced in 2006, as the third highest division, the club then hired the first division experienced Bengt Persson as the new trainer. After the team found themselves under his leadership in the middle of the table, this was dismissed during the course of the season and Melkemichel returned to the coaching bench. In a dramatic final spurt of the season, the team jumped from fourth and thus last qualifying place for Division 1 to first place in the table and qualified - with only three points ahead of a relegation place due to the league reform - for the promotion round to the second-rate Superettan . There she failed after a 2-0 defeat despite a 2-1 return win at Gothenburg club Qviding FIF . After a good start to the season with eight wins from nine games in the debut season of the new Division 1 2006 , the club slipped to sixth place in the table after several injury-related failures during the season. After a fourth place in the following season, Melkemichels team dominated the 2008 season and rose as champions of the northern season with eight points ahead of Vasalunds IF for the first time in the club's history in the second division.

With the team around the former national player Suleyman Sleyman , Joakim Hagernäs , Michael Mensah and Haris Skenderović , the club supervised by Melkemichel surprised in the second division, at the end of the season, fourth in the table, was missing a point on the relegation place occupied by Assyriska Föreningen and thus to march through to the Allsvenskan . In the 2010 season he expanded his success, as a second division champion he reached the top division with the team. With the rise, however, a problem arose for Melkemichel, as he did not have the required coaching license for the Allsvenskan. At the beginning of January 2011, the club made do by hiring the Estonian Valeri Bondarenko as the official head coach, who should form a coaching team with the main responsible Melkemichel, which led to discussions about the legality. In the following season, the team around team captain Ahmet Özdemirok , Sharbel Touma , Omar Jawo and Peter Ijeh was in a relegation battle and occupied the relegation place. After a 1: 2 defeat in the first leg against Ängelholms FF , an own goal by David Bennhage in the second leg shortly before the final whistle to 3-1 meant the relegation. After Bondarenko left the club at the end of the season, Syrianska FC hired Klebér Saarenpää as his successor in March 2012 . After relegation at the end of the 2013 season , he resigned from his post and left the club.

In December 2013, the third division AFC United signed Melkemichel as a new coach. With the club he rose to the Superettan as master of the northern season at the end of his first year in office. After an eighth place in the table in the first year, he led the club in the second division season 2016 in the top group. After a head-to-head race with IK Sirius , he finished second in the table with the team due to the goal difference being one goal worse . Despite the promotion to the top division, he left the club after the end of the season and joined first division rivals Djurgårdens IF , where he signed a two-year contract with the option of extension. He led the club to third place in the table in his first season, so the team qualified for the elimination rounds in the European Cup .

Melkemichel worked full-time as a hairdresser until 2006 .
