Martin Kayongo-Mutumba , sometimes just written Martin Mutumba , (born June 15, 1985 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish football player of Ugandan descent. The midfielder has made his career in Sweden, Finland and Hungary.
Career
Kayongo-Mutumba started playing soccer at Vasalunds IF . In 1998 he moved to the youth department of local rivals AIK , where he went through the individual youth teams and in 2002 moved up to the squad of the professional team. On September 12th of the year he made his debut for the traditional club in the Allsvenskan , when he replaced the Australian Luke Casserly from the 88th minute of the game in the 2-1 success against Kalmar FF . He then continued to be part of the squad and, after regular test matches, made nine league appearances as a substitute in the 2003 season . After the end of the season he broke his leg at an indoor tournament and had to take a long break. In order to help Kayongo-Mutumba in his healing process and, if necessary, to help him to match practice, the club decided to loan him to the cooperation partner FC Café Opera in the second-class Superettan in 2004 . However, due to the lengthy healing process, he stayed there during the season without playing. In autumn of that year, he decided to look for a new challenge.
Kayongo-Mutumba joined the Finnish Veikkausliiga at FC Inter Turku . In the team around Magnus Bahne , Mika Ojala , Diego Corpache and Ari Nyman , he established himself as a regular in midfield under coach Kari Virtanen . Until 2007 he ran for the club in the top division in the country before he went to Väsby United for the second division season 2008 after trial training with several international teams . Here he was a regular player straight away and contributed in 29 league games to the fact that the second division promoted by Mikael Stahre remained ninth in the league. In November of that year, his former club AIK presented him alongside Jos Hooiveld and Mikael Thorstensson as a new addition, as he had signed a two-year contract. Initially also in the Allsvenskan regular player, an injury slowed him down at the end of May. At the beginning of July he returned to the squad and regained his regular place. On the last matchday of the 2009 season , he put on the 2-1 away win in a direct duel for the championship title against IFK Göteborg to the meanwhile 1-1 equalizer by Antônio Flávio . Even a week later when the game was re-played as part of the cup final , he was part of the starting line-up, shortly before the final whistle in the 2-0 win he was replaced by Daniel Tjernström .
In February 2010, Kayongo-Mutumba extended his contract with AIK for two years. Even afterwards, he was one of the club's regulars, who slipped to the bottom of the table after the departure of some top performers. At the end of June, the club sold him together with his teammate Bojan đorđić to the Hungarian club Videoton FC after the former sports director Björn Wesström had admitted money problems. From there, after only a few appearances in the first and second team, he was awarded to his former club AIK Solna, where he has made 19 league appearances and one goal to date (as of August 15, 2011).
In spring 2014 Kayongo-Mutumba moved to the Turkish Süper Lig to Çaykur Rizespor . In the summer of 2014, after relegation, his contract was dissolved without having played a competitive match for Rizespor.
A few days later, his move to the Turkish second division club Orduspor was announced. After Orduspor ran into major financial difficulties and was therefore unable to pay his players' salaries, Kayongo-Mutumba left the club in mid-March 2015 and went to Rah Ahan in Iran for four months . In the summer he then moved to IF Brommapojkarna for six months and in June 2016 to the Swedish first division club Örgryte IS in the Superettan .
