Jos Hooiveld (born April 22, 1983 in Zeijen , Drenthe ) is a Dutch football player . The defender , who has worked in the Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Sweden and Scotland in his career so far, won the Finnish championship title with Inter Turku in 2008 and the Swedish double from championship and national cup with AIK in 2009 .

Career

Career start in the Netherlands

Hooiveld started playing soccer at Sportvereniging Zeyen . He came to the youth department of SC Heerenveen through Achilles 1894 , LTC Assen and BVO Emmen . In May 2003 he made his debut in the Eredivisie in the 5-1 away win over Willem II Tilburg when he came on for Sweden's Petter Hansson shortly before the end of the game . In the following season he established himself in the squad of the first division team and wavered between starting eleven and bench. After he was not used in the first half of the 2004/05 season , he left the club in February 2005 on loan to FC Zwolle to replace the injured Remco Schol . He was a permanent member of the Dutch second division team and played 45 league games in a year and a half.

Via Austria to Northern Europe and Scotland

In the summer of 2006, Hooiveld moved abroad for the first time and played for half a year for Kapfenberger SV . For the club from Styria, he played 14 games in the second-rate first division before his compatriot Job Dragtsma guided him to Inter Turku in Finland in early 2007 . Under the Dutch coach he developed into one of the best players in the Veikkausliiga and contributed in the 2008 season with three goals in 23 games this season to win the Finnish championship.

In November 2008 Hooiveld announced his departure from the Finnish champions and moved to AIK in the Swedish Allsvenskan . He signed a three-year contract with the Solna club. Here he established himself with the number "20" as a regular in the defense line. By the end of the season he was used in 28 of the 30 league games and thus made a decisive contribution to winning the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish championship. On November 7th, he was also with the team in the cup final, which was won by a 2-0 win against IFK Gothenburg .

In the winter break of 2009/2010, Hooiveld moved to the Scottish Premier League at Celtic Glasgow for a transfer fee of around 18 million Swedish kronor , where he signed a three and a half year contract. Shortly after his debut, he was injured and after two games this season remained without further use until the summer of that year. After the departure of Landry N'Guémo he took over his shirt number "6" and was briefly in the starting lineup at the beginning of the 2010/11 season and also ran for the club in qualifying for the European Cup . After failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League against Sporting Braga , they had to compete in the play-offs for a place in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League . In the 4-0 defeat in the second leg at FC Utrecht , which meant elimination despite a 2-0 first-leg win, he caused a penalty . As a result, he lost his regular place and did not get beyond the role of a supplementary player until the end of the year.

In January 2011 Hooiveld was loaned to FC Copenhagen after he had not been able to assert himself at Celtic. The Danish first division team also had a purchase option, but did not take it. In his eleven appearances in the Danish Super League , he had been in the starting line-up seven times.

Moved to England and returned to Sweden

For the 2011/12 season, Hooiveld was awarded again and joined the former English second division club FC Southampton, at the end of 2011 the Dutchman was then completely transferred to the "Saints". He was promoted to the Premier League with the team in the summer of 2012 , having made a decisive contribution in 39 second division games with seven goals this season. Following a 4-1 defeat at West Ham United on matchday eight, however, he lost his regular place in the top English division and was only used sporadically by Nigel Adkins . After Adkins' resignation in mid-January 2013, he returned to the regular formation under his successor Mauricio Pochettino and thus played a total of 25 season games, but remained without scoring.

In the 2013/14 season, Hooiveld moved into the second line under Pochettino and did not make more than three appearances as a substitute. Although Ronald Koeman, a fellow countryman, took over training with the "Saints" in the summer of 2014, he was awarded to the relegated Norwich City . In the "Canaries" he ran up to November six times in the second division, so that the loan deal originally intended until the end of the season was canceled and he was loaned out in January by Southampton FC to Millwall second division club .

In the summer of 2015, Hooiveld returned to Sweden and rejoined the AIK, with which he signed a contract valid until 2017. Under coach Andreas Alm , he was a regular player straight away and played eleven league games by the end of the 2015 season , which he finished with the club as third in the table. At the beginning of the following season he was still a regular player, but from May on he was only second choice under Alm's successor Rikard Norling . He only returned to the starting line-up in July, but in qualifying for the group stage for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League he was eliminated with the team led by Nils-Eric Johansson , Stefan Ishizaki , Eero Markkanen , Amin Affane and Patrik Carlgren after two defeats against Panathinaikos Athens from.
