Mauricio Roberto Pochettino Trossero (born March 2, 1972 in Murphy , Santa Fe ) is an Argentine football coach . The former professional footballer was the head coach of the English first division club Tottenham Hotspur for five years .
Career
society
Pochettino began his career with the Newell's Old Boys . In 1994 he moved to Europe to Espanyol Barcelona . There he was a regular player straight away and was able to celebrate winning the Copa del Rey in 2000 . In the same year Pochettino moved to France, where he signed a contract with Paris Saint-Germain . In 2003 he was in the final of the Coupe de France , which was lost to AJ Auxerre 2-1. In the summer break he moved to league rivals Girondins Bordeaux , where his guest appearance lasted only a half series. He returned to Espanyol Barcelona in the winter, where he retired from his career in 2006.
National team
Between 2000 and 2002 Pochettino played 20 times for the Argentine national team . He also took part in the 2002 World Cup with her .

At the beginning of 2009 Pochettino was the successor of José Manuel Esnal ("Mané") head coach of Espanyol Barcelona.
Despite his little experience as a coach, Pochettino managed to save Espanyol from relegation and led the team after five months from the relegation ranks to tenth place in the table at the end of the season. Under his leadership, the team developed steadily and became one of the most successful in the league during the second half of the season. In the following seasons he established the club again in the midfield of the league.
On November 26, 2012, his contract with Espanyol was dissolved after a bad start to the 2012/13 season , when the club finished last in the table with just nine points from 13 games.

On January 18, 2013, he took over the post of coach at the English first division club Southampton FC, which was in 15th place in the table with 22 points, as the successor to the dismissed Nigel Adkins . Pochettino led the Saints to keep the league at the end of the season.
