Sven Jonasson

Sven Jonasson (born July 9, 1909 in Borås , † September 17, 1984 in Varberg ) was a Swedish football player and coach . In 2003 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Swedish Football .

career

Club career

Jonasson began his career in his hometown with IK Ymer before moving to IF Elfsborg , for whom he played in the Allsvenskan . Since his debut on September 11, 1927, he has played 344 consecutive games without a break, a record in the Swedish league. In total, he played 410 first division games for the club by the end of his career in 1946, with the striker achieving 252 goals, also a record in the league. In 1934 and 1936 he was top scorer, in 1936, 1939 and 1940 Swedish champions respectively.

1952 to 1954 he was the coach of his home club in the Allsvenskan.

National team

Between 1932 and 1940 Jonasson played 42 caps for Sweden . He scored 20 goals in the process.

Jonasson was a participant in the World Championships in 1934 , in which Sweden failed in the quarter-finals to Germany , and in 1938 , in which it was not over until the semi-finals against Hungary and the game for third place was lost to Brazil 2-4. He got a total of three World Championship goals.

Jonasson also took part in the 1936 Olympic Games soccer competition. However, Sweden was eliminated in the first round with a 2-3 defeat against Japan .
