The 1968 Fotbollsallsvenskan was the 44th season of the top Swedish football league . Between April 15 and October 27, 1968, the Swedish football champions were played in it.

In an exciting title fight in which four teams finished the championship tied, Östers IF won the Von Rosens Cup as a promoted player for the first time in the club's history and left last year's champions Malmö FF as well as IFK Norrköping and Djurgårdens IF behind. For the first time since the 1961 season , when IF Elfsborg was also a promoted champion, both promoted champions were able to hold onto the class. Helsingborgs IF and the Swedish record champions Örgryte IS had to leave the Swedish elite class for Division 2 as relegated teams . Ultimately, only eleven points separated the champions from bottom of the table.
