Fotbollsallsvenskan 1972

The 1973 Fotbollsallsvenskan was the 49th season of the top Swedish football league .

Between 1924 and 1972 , the Allsvenskan had twelve teams. The 1973 season was the first season in which 14 teams played for the championship title. This number was retained until the 2007 season before the league was increased again.

Last year's champion Åtvidabergs FF was able to defend his title in 1973 and thus managed four national titles in a row, including the two cup wins in 1970 and 1971. The double win was prevented by the 7-0 final defeat in the Svenska Cupen against Malmö FF . The two relegation places were occupied by Örgryte IS and the newcomer IF Saab , who completed his only season in the Swedish House of Lords.
