John Sanny Åslund (born August 29, 1952 in Torsby ) is a former Swedish football player and later coach and manager. Åslund played from 1971 to 1973 as an ice hockey player for KB Karlskoga in the top Swedish league.
After his career as a trainer, he became Marketing Director at the Norwegian oil company Statoil . In 2000 he became director of the traditional Swedish club AIK Solna from Stockholm's twin city. The plan was to build a team that would be internationally competitive. After relegation from the first Swedish league Allsvenskan and threats from their own fan camp, Åslund left the club in 2004.
In the Swedish national team , Sanny Åslund only made five appearances as he was often injured and barely played a season. Sanny Åslund's brother Anders also played for AIK. His son Martin Åslund also played for the club and became a national player.
Trivia
In 1988 Åslund set a Swedish league record as coach with the transfer of almost 38-year-old German goalkeeper Dieter Burdenski to AIK Solna. Burdenski, who Åslund knew from his time at Werder Bremen , became the oldest first division debutant of all time when he played against Hammarby IF (final score 0-0).
