Martin John Allan Åslund (born November 10, 1976 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish football player . The midfielder , who played four caps for the Swedish national team between 1998 and 2001 , is the son of Sanny Åslunds and nephew Anders Åslunds , who both played for the Allsvenskan themselves .

Career

Åslund started playing football in AIK's youth in 1981 . In 1983 he switched to the youth team at IFK Täby and from 1991 played for the youth teams at Enebybergs IF . In 1993 he joined the youth team of Djurgårdens IF , where he made his debut in the Swedish second division in 1994 . With the club he was season winner in the north and thus made it to the Allsvenskan . After the club occupied only one relegation place in 1996 , Åslund left the club and went to league rivals IFK Norrköping , where he was active for the following two years. On October 14, 1998, Åslund made his international debut for the Swedish national team . In the 1-0 win against Bulgaria , he was in the starting line-up and was substituted for Jesper Blomqvist in the 71st minute . It was initially his only international appearance.

Åslund returned in 1999 to the club where he took his first football steps: AIK Solna. With the club he was able to celebrate his first title in the same year, the club won the Svenska Cup . On February 10, 2001, he was able to crown his comeback in the national team at the King's Cup with a goal in the 4-1 win against Thailand . At the tournament he played two more games and scored another goal. Until 2004 he remained loyal to AIK and ran for the club in the league, in the national cup and in the European cup . After the club's relegation from the Allsvenskan, he decided to go abroad.

Together with team-mate Jimmy Tamandi , Åslund moved to Serie B for Salernitana Calcio , where a former AIKler had moved to Karl Corneliusson a year earlier . There he played only a half series to return to Northern Europe. In the summer of 2005, Åslund Viborg FF joined the Danish Superliga and signed a four-year contract.

In March 2008 Åslund returned to Sweden in the Superettan and signed a two-year contract with the second division promoted Assyriska FF . With the club, as fourth in the table, he just missed the relegation place for promotion to the Allsvenskan.
