Karl Corneliusson (born November 17, 1976 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish football player . The defensive player, who was mainly used as a full-back in the course of his playing career , ran several times for the Swedish national team . He was used for AIK in the Champions League and won the Swedish Cup with the club in 1999 .
Career
Corneliusson started playing football in 1982 at Masthuggets BK . In 1986 he went to Göteborgs FF before joining the youth of Örgryte IS in 1988 . There he made his debut in Division 1 in 1994 and managed to return to the Allsvenskan with the club .
In 1999 Corneliusson moved to league competitor and reigning champion AIK. For the club he was used in the Champions League 1999/2000 and won the Svenska Cup in 1999 with the team . At the beginning of 2000 he was appointed as an alternative to Roland Nilsson as a left full-back in the Swedish national team and made his debut on February 4 of that year in a 1-1 draw against the Norwegian national team in La Manga del Mar Menor, Spain . In 2001, Olle Nordin became AIK's new coach and he named Corneliusson team captain . He was also able to establish himself as a regular in the national team and helped to successfully qualify for the 2002 World Cup . However, in the summer of that year he was injured and had to take a longer break. After his recovery, he was no longer considered in the national team. In the course of the 2003 season he also lost his regular place at the club, so that he left AIK at the end of the season.
In January 2004 he moved to Italy to Salernitana Calcio in the Serie B . He stayed there for six months before moving to a coaching change at Napoli Soccer in the Series C was borrowed. After Salernitana Calcio had to file for bankruptcy and was excluded from Serie B in the summer of 2005, he returned to Sweden to Landskrona BoIS in the Allsvenskan. With the club, however, he rose at the end of the season in the Superettan and ended his active career after the end of the second division season in 2007 .
