Career

societies

The striker Conny Torstensson began his career at Åtvidabergs FF , which was considered a great talent factory in football in Sweden . From 1967 to 1973 he played for this club in the first division . In his last two seasons he was Swedish champion . In the 1973/74 European Cup , Åtvidaberg met German champions FC Bayern Munich , who won the first leg (in Munich) 3-1 in the first round . In the second leg, Åtvidaberg led 3-0, thanks in part to two goals from Torstensson, before Uli Hoeneß scored the 3-1 goal. In the penalty shootout , the Bayern set with 4: 3 by Torstensson and changed at the behest of coach Udo Lattek and manager Robert Schwan for 580,000 German marks even during the winter break to Munich. With Torstensson, Bayern later won the European Cup for the first time , and he was used in both finals. Since Torstensson was under contract until 1977 , he was able to win the European Cup two more times; as he scored important goals (10 in 21 games), he was nicknamed “Mr. European Cup ".

Torstensson has played 81 league (11 goals), twelve DFB Cup (4 goals) and both World Cup games for FC Bayern . His first competitive goal for Bayern was the 2-1 winning goal in the round of 16 of the club cup at Werder Bremen on December 15, 1973. Torstensson made his Bundesliga debut on January 5, 1974 (18th matchday) in the 2: 4 defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf ; his first goal was the 1-0 winner at Rot-Weiss Essen on January 19, 1974 (20th matchday). In 1977 he spent a year in Switzerland for A-National division club FC Zurich , returned to his former club back and ended after three seasons in 1980 his career.

National team

Torstensson played 40 times for the national team between 1972 and 1979 and scored seven goals. He took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany , where he played twice in Group III in the first final round, three times in Group B in the second final round and against Yugoslavia with a 2-1 winner four minutes before the end of the game , made for the only win this round. He was part of the squad at the Football World Cup in 1978 where he was used as a substitute in Sweden's 0-1 defeat in Sweden's second game against Austria . In the other games (1: 1 against Brazil and 0: 1 against Spain ) he was not used and Sweden was eliminated without a win after the preliminary round.

Others

After his time as a player, Torstensson initially worked as a programmer in his middle-class profession, first in the packaging industry, later he was also a supervisor, trainer, board member and manager at Åtvidabergs FF. In 1986 he was the coach of the team at the time in the second division. Between July 2007 and December 2009 he was head of sport for the Speedway team - speedway is a relatively important sport in Sweden - from Västervik , which at that time was a national runner-up but then fell sharply.

These days he is living with his wife Annette, a teacher and local politician from the Centerpartiet , by a lake in the small village of Borghult about 25 km northwest of Västervik . The couple has been married since 1971 and has two daughters.
