Roland Sandberg (born December 16, 1946 in Karlskrona ) is a former Swedish football player .

Career

First Sandberg played for the Swedish club Åtvidabergs FF . He won the cup with Atvidabergs in 1970 and 1971 and the championship in 1972. He was the top scorer in 1971 with 17 goals and was able to repeat this in 1972, but now together with his teammate Ralf Edström with 16 goals each. In the European Cup Winners' Cup , he and his club eliminated Chelsea FC in the second round . In the second leg he scored the decisive goal for the 1-1 draw in the 66th minute. For the 1973/74 round, the striker moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga. In the third game he scored his first league goal against Eintracht Frankfurt . He made 32 league games in his debut round and scored 19 goals alongside center forward Klaus Toppmöller (21 goals). The Red Devils took 6th place. For four years he played for the “Red Devils” and scored 60 goals in 118 games. His greatest success in Kaiserslautern was reaching the final in the DFB-Pokal 1975/76 , which the Palatinate lost 2-0 to Hamburger SV . He ended his career in Kalmar FF, Sweden .

In 1969 he made his debut in the Swedish national team , for which he played a total of 37 games and scored 15 goals. In the successful World Cup qualification in 1972 and 1973, he was active for his home country against Malta, Hungary and Austria. In the play-off on November 27, 1973 against the tied Austria team, he scored the 1-0 lead in a 2-1 win in the 12th minute. At the 1974 World Cup in Germany, he played six games and scored two goals. First he prevailed with his teammates in the group matches and moved into the final round with 2nd place. He formed the attacking spearhead with center forward Ralf Edström. In the game against Germany on June 30 in Düsseldorf, he scored the goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-2.
