Arild Stavrum (born April 16, 1972 in Kristiansund ) is a former Norwegian football player and coach .

Club career

Stavrum started his professional career at Brann Bergen . After three seasons as a supplementary player, he moved to Molde FK , where he made his breakthrough. Together with Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Ole Bjørn Sundgot he formed an offensive trio that was titled as "The 3 S". Stavrum scored 26 goals for the club in the following two seasons. He rose with his club in the first season in the Tippeligaen and won the cup. In 1995 he was runner-up in the Tippeligaen with Molde.

After a year at Stabæk Fotball , he moved abroad to the Swedish club Helsingborgs IF . With 18 goals this season, he was top scorer in the top Swedish league Allsvenskan and cup winner. A year later he became Swedish champions with the club.

As a result, Stavrum was discussed at Rapid Vienna for a long time . Shortly before the contract was signed, however, it was decided in Vienna for the current top scorer in the German second division , Angelo Vier . Stavrum then signed with the Scottish club FC Aberdeen . In Scotland, Stavrum quickly became a crowd favorite. In the 2000/01 season he scored 17 goals and was second on the Scottish top scorer list behind Henrik Larsson . After this strong season, several international clubs noticed him and Aberdeen sold him to Beşiktaş Istanbul . In Turkey he was unable to establish himself as a regular player and scored five goals in 18 games. As a result, his contract was terminated after a year.

In the summer of 2002 the 1. FSV Mainz 05 wanted to sign Stavrum, but withdrew the offer shortly before the contract was signed. According to the association, Stavrum was out of shape. Therefore, he was initially without a club before returning to Molde FK in the winter. Back home, many minor injuries prevented him from regaining his old shape. After scoring just one goal in one and a half seasons, he retired in the summer of 2004.

Coaching career

In 2005 Stavrum began his coaching career with the then Norwegian third division club Bærum SK . After leading the outsider to fourth place in the table, he was signed by his old club Molde FK. At Molde he acted without luck and at the end of the season got down from the Tippe- to the Adeccoligaen . After relegation, he was released and subsequently worked as a television expert for TV 2 .

In December 2007, the Norwegian champions from 1966, Skeid Fotball , signed Stavrum as the successor to coach Anders Jacobsen , with whom the Oslo club was relegated to the third-class 2nd division . After 22 wins in 26 season games, he rose with the team at the end of the 2008 season back to the Adeccoligaen .

National team

Due to many injuries and a strong series of strikes by the Norwegians in the 1990s, Stavrum came to only two international matches for Norway ; he did not score a goal. He made his debut against Israel in 1995 .
