Niklas Skoog (born June 15, 1974 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker was the Allsvenskan top scorer twice and played for the Swedish national team between 2002 and 2004 .
Career
Skoog played for Hovås IF and Västra Frölunda IF in his youth . In 1991 the striker made his debut for Västra Frölunda in the Allsvenskan. After becoming the league's top scorer with 17 goals in 1995, he moved to MSV Duisburg in the Bundesliga the following summer . Here he could hardly prevail in two seasons and went to 1. FC Nürnberg in 1998 . But even here he was denied success and even after the club was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga , he hardly got a chance. So he returned to Sweden and signed with Örebro SK , where he found his way back to old goal danger.
In the summer of 2001, Skoog moved to Malmö FF as the successor to Zlatan Ibrahimović . In 2003 he was again the top scorer of the Allsvenskan, this time with 22 goals this season. A year later he was able to celebrate winning the Swedish championship with the club. In 2005 and 2006 he was hardly used due to injuries. In the 2007 season he came back often and was able to score five goals in 16 league games. However, he was only irregularly part of the starting line-up and after ten games the following season he was loaned to the Superettan in early August for the rest of the season at Mjällby AIF . On August 4, 2008, he made his debut in the 3-0 defeat against Väsby United for his new club and subsequently contributed to eighth place in the second division with five goals for the club. After the end of the semi-series, he initially returned to Malmö FF before he dissolved his contract with the club in March 2009 and announced the end of his career.
Skoog played eight times for the Swedish national team. He also played 14 U21 internationals for Sweden.
