Rutger Backe (born January 14, 1951 in Falkenberg ) is a former Swedish football player and coach . The striker , who made eight appearances for the Swedish national team between 1979 and 1980 , won two Swedish championships with Halmstads BK .

Career

Backe began playing football at IF Böljan in his hometown of Falkenberg. In 1972 the striker moved to Halmstads BK in the Allsvenskan . After the club was relegated from the league in its first year, the immediate promotion succeeded and then the team was in the relegation battle in the Swedish House of Lords. After the commitment of Roy Hodgson , who made his coaching debut at the Swedish club, Backe was able to surprisingly celebrate the Swedish championship title in the 1976 season alongside players such as Hans Selander , Sigvard Johansson or Lennart Larsson . In addition, the striker scored 21 goals this season, making him the second HBK player after Sylve Bengtsson to secure the title of top scorer. By winning the Von Rosens Cup he qualified with the club for the 1977/78 European Cup , where the Swedish team failed in the first round after a 2-0 defeat away from Dynamo Dresden despite a 2-1 win in the second leg .

In the 1979 season Halmstads BK was able to win the championship again. Backe was also called up to the Swedish national team in the summer and made his debut on August 15 of that year in the 2-0 away defeat against the Norwegian national team in the dress of the national team. In his second appearance, a 3-1 defeat in qualifying for the 1980 European Championship against France , he scored his first international goal with the Swedish consolation goal. In the following year he also played in the national jersey several times before he was no longer called up after eight missions in which he scored two goals.

In 1981 backe ended his career at the club after 207 games and 77 goals for Halmstads BK in the Allsvenskan.

1999 Backe returned as a coach of Falkenbergs FF in the higher class Swedish football. In a duet with Sven Sjöholm he reached ninth place in the table in the second-rate Division 1 Södra , but was replaced after one season by Roberto Jakobsson .
