William "Billy" Lansdowne Jr. (Born April 28, 1959 in Epping , Essex ) is a retired English football player .

Career

Lansdowne began his career at West Ham United , where his father Bill Landsdowne played football. Although he managed a hat trick in the League Cup against Southend United in October 1979 , he was ultimately unable to prevail at the club. He then moved on to Charlton Athletic . In early 1983 he went to the Third Division for Gillingham FC after his contract with Charlton was dissolved.

Just a few months later, Lansdowne moved to Kalmar FF in the second-rate Division 2 . In his first season he scored 16 goals this season and thus helped his club to win the season as top scorer and, after the subsequent success against Djurgårdens IF, to return to the Allsvenskan . In the first division he formed the club's storm duo with Peter Karlsson , who was obliged by Åtvidabergs FF . In the first year, the two of them, like the entire team - scored 17 goals in 22 games - were rather harmless, in 1985 the two became the Allsvenskan's top scorer with ten goals each together with Sören Börjesson from Örgryte IS . Thus the team reached the championship finals, in which they failed after two defeats in the semifinals at the eventual champions Örgryte IS. In the following season, the club had to relegate as the table penultimate, but Lansdowne remained loyal to the club in the second division for a season and ended his career there in 1988.

In the season breaks of the Swedish league Lansdowne returned several times to England and played for the amateur club FC Dagenham , the highlight of his stays there was the move into the third round of the FA Cup 1984/85 .

After his career ended, Lansdowne worked as a television commentator for Swedish television. For TV 4 , for example, he commented on games in the Premier League in the program Tipslördag and the 1998 World Cup together with Peppe Eng . He was also a football expert at Viasat and commented on greyhound races for TV3 .
