Mathias Ranégie (born June 14, 1984 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish football player . The striker , who won the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish championship with IFK Göteborg in 2007 , made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2010 . A year later he won the title of top scorer in the Allsvenskan .

Career

Ranégie started playing football at Masthuggets BK . As a 14-year-old, the striker moved to France for Levallois SC . After returning to Sweden, he first went to Majornas IK , before he joined Lärje-Angereds IF in 2006 in the fourth division Division 2 . In one season he scored 25 goals in 19 games; at the end of the season he was signed by IFK Gothenburg for two years . In his first season in the Allsvenskan he was only used as a substitute and was Swedish champion with the team at the end of the year. The following season he had to take a break due to injuries.

In the summer of 2008, the Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles Deventer loaned him from the Eerste Divisie , the second highest division in the country, until the end of the season. A purchase option was also agreed. However, after the striker suffered a serious knee injury, the club refrained from signing and canceled the loan deal.

Ranégie returned to Sweden. There he signed a contract with BK Häcken in January 2009 , which had been promoted to Allsvenskan. He made his debut for his new club on the opening match day of the 2009 season in the 0-1 defeat against Malmö FF . In the course of the season he established himself as a regular player and contributed to reaching fifth place in the table with six goals this season. National coach Erik Hamrén called him for the opening international games in 2010 in the Swedish national team. As a substitute for Daniel Larsson , he made his debut on January 20 in a 1-0 win over the Omani national team . In his starting line-up debut three days later against Syria , he scored his first international goal shortly before the end with the goal to make it 1-1. In the following season he placed twelve goals this season among the top three goal scorers of the 2010 season .

Up until the summer transfer period , Ranégie had a three-way battle with Ibrahim Teteh Bangura and Tobias Hysén in the top scorers list for the 2011 season . After Bangura moved to Turkey in early August, Ranégie took the sole lead in the scorers' list. Shortly before the end of the transfer period, he moved within the Allsvenskan to the then master Malmö FF , where the player hoped to play in the European Cup. With three goals for his new club by the end of the season in October, he extended his lead in the scorers list, while he advanced with the club to fourth place in the table. With 21 goals this season, he relegated Hysén to second place among the top scorers of the championship by five goals. After the end of the season he was appointed by national coach Hamrén for a January tour. However, he canceled his participation for personal reasons.

In the following season in 2012 Ranégie was the club's top scorer; Malmö FF held out in the race for the top places. After the national coach Hamrén, despite the failures of Johan Elmander , John Guidetti , Markus Rosenberg and Alexander Gerndt, continued to do without him for the first international match after the European Championship in 2012 , the player mocked him via Twitter by showing a video clip showing his lack of English Press conference spread.

On the last day of the summer transfer period on August 31, 2012 Ranégie moved to the Italian club Udinese Calcio in Serie A , where he signed a five-year contract. A few days later he ousted Maicosuel, who was also newly signed, from the squad for the 2012/13 Europa League after he had missed the decisive penalty in the play-off round of the 2012/13 Champions League in the defeat against Sporting Braga on penalties. In addition, he tried to bring himself back into conversation for the national team, as he saw his status increased by the change.

Since Ranégie had established himself at Udinese Calcio, Hamrén appointed him to the squad for the qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup against the Faroe Islands and Germany in early October 2012 . After more than two years, he made his comeback in the national jersey in the 2-1 win against the Faroe Islands on October 12, 2012. While he played 20 league games more often in Serie A in the 2021/13 season and stayed in the national team at the same time, coach Francesco Guidolin only used him sporadically in the following season.

At the beginning of January 2014, the English second division FC Watford signed Ranégie and his previous teammate Alexander Merkel . In August 2014 he was awarded to Millwall FC until November 2014 , and in February 2015 to the Chinese club Dalian Aerbin . In February 2016, in turn, it was awarded to the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF . During the Allsvenskan season in 2016 he was a regular player for most of the season and scored six goals in 25 league games, but after the loan period expired in November he turned his back on the bottom of the table and returned to England. There he remained without further use.

After his contract in England ran out, Ranégie was without a club before he returned to his former club BK Häcken by the end of the year, who also signed another Swedish professional in Mervan Çelik . By the end of the season, he played ten games for the Gothenburg club in the country's top division. After the turn of the year he was again without a club before joining third division Syrianska FC in mid-March 2018 .
