Mervan Çelik (born May 26, 1990 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish - Turkish football player . He has not only Swedish but also Turkish citizenship.
Career
Çelik was born in 1990 in the Gothenburg district of Biskopsgården . His parents are from Turkey originated Kurds . He started playing football at the Gothenburg club IF Warta . From there he moved within the city to the youth department of BK Häcken , for whose junior teams he was running until the beginning of 2007. He then moved on to local rivals GAIS . Here he initially played in the club's youth team, but also joined the club's second team from the summer at times.
Before the 2008 season, Çelik moved up as a junior player in the squad of the GAIS competition team in the Allsvenskan . After he was often used in the preparatory games, he completed the first half of the season again with the reserve team. In July 2008 he finally made his debut as a substitute for Jóhann Birnir Guðmundsson in the 1-1 draw away at GIF Sundsvall in the top Swedish division. As a result, he was used irregularly in the Allsvenskan, but had played in the squad of the U-18 national team. After two seasons as a supplementary player, he made his breakthrough in adult football in the 2010 season . Coach Alexander Axén used him in 26 of the 30 season games, with three goals this season he contributed to achieving relegation on the last non-relegation place. After good performance at the beginning of the following season, in which he regularly scored goals, he moved into the field of vision of the U-21 selection coach Tommy Söderberg and Håkan Ericson . On his debut on June 2, 2011, he scored two goals in a 4-1 away win over Norway .
In January 2012 he signed a contract with the Glasgow Rangers , which he dissolved again in March due to the Rangers' financial problems. He then returned to GAIS, where he signed a contract until the end of the year. In July 2012 he left GAIS and moved to Delfino Pescara in 1936 .
In the summer of 2013 he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig for the capital club Gençlerbirliği Ankara . He left this club prematurely in the summer of 2015 and instead signed on with league rivals Akhisar Belediyespor .
After four years in Turkey, Çelik returned to Sweden with his move to BK Häcken. In the summer of 2019 he moved to the Turkish second division club Fatih Karagümrük SK .
