Barış Özbek (born September 14, 1986 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a German football player . He plays in midfield .

Career

The midfielder grew up with his brothers Sencer and Ufuk in his native Castrop-Rauxel. In his youth, Özbek played for the Bochum district clubs SG Wattenscheid 09 and DJK TuS Hordel as well as for Blau-Gelb Schwerin, before moving to the youth team of Rot-Weiss Essen in 2003. From 2005 he played in the first team of RW Essen, with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2006 . Baris Özbek and his Essen team-mate Serkan Calik agreed on a commitment for the 2007/08 season with Galatasaray Istanbul after the contract ended in Essen. In Essen, Barış Özbek played a total of 13 games in the Regionalliga Nord and 25 games in the 2nd Bundesliga . He also played a DFB Cup game during his time in Essen.

At Galatasaray Istanbul Özbek was able to fight for a regular place and came in the 2007/08 season to 30 appearances in the Turkish Süper Lig , two games in the UEFA Cup qualifying and six UEFA Cup appearances.

His contract with Galatasaray Istanbul ended on May 31, 2011 and has not been renewed. Özbek moved to Trabzonspor on a free transfer . However, he tore a cruciate ligament in mid-June and could not be used in the first half of the season. In total, he came to nine games there.

At the end of January 2013 he moved back to Germany for the second division club 1. FC Union Berlin , where he signed a contract until the end of June 2016. He scored a goal in his first game for Union. At the end of the 2013/14 season he received clearance from the club because he did not meet the expectations placed on him, but was taken back to the squad after a coach change . In January 2015 he reached an early contract termination with Union Berlin and left this club after two years of membership.

Özbek moved back to Turkey in the spring of 2015, a few days after leaving Union Berlin, and this time joined the second division club Kayserispor . With this club he reached the second division championship and thus the direct return to the Süper Lig . A year later - in February 2016 - he moved back to Germany to MSV Duisburg , with whom he was relegated to the third division at the end of the season. On December 7, 2016, he received the red card after a push in the game at SF Lotte . When his opponent went down again after being touched by Özbek, he kicked him on the calf and then hit two of Lotte's players in the face on the way to the dressing room. Özbek received eight games ban from the DFB sports court .

On November 29, 2017, Özbek terminated his contract. In January 2019 he hired the Turkish third division club Fatih Karagümrük SK .
