Özbek is a Turkish male and female first name , which also occurs as a family name . According to the Turkish dictionary of names, Özbek means, on the one hand, "strong, bold, fearless" and, on the other hand, Uzbek . The common name of the Uzbeks is derived from the proper name of a person, namely from Uzbek Khan (Turkish: Özbek Han ), one of the rulers of the Golden Horde .
