Hamid Akhavan

Hamid Akhavan (* 1961 in Tehran , Iran ) is an American manager.

Akhavan studied electrical engineering and computer science at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). After completing his Bachelor of Science degree , he earned a Masters degree in the same subjects from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Akhavan was employed by T-Mobile International from September 2001 and was appointed to the board in December 2002. Until December 2006 he held the position of Chief Technology and Information Officer ( CTO ) on the Management Board of T-Mobile International. In addition, he has been chairman of the supervisory board of T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH since 2006. As part of a strategic realignment, he also became CTO in the Deutsche Telekom AG Group in September 2006.

Before his career in the Deutsche Telekom AG Group, he was Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer ( CIO ) at Teligent Inc. and previously held various positions at other technology companies.

In December 2009 it was surprisingly announced that Akhavan would become CEO of telecommunications and network specialist Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) , today Unify .

In January 2014 Akhavan handed over his CEO title to Dean Douglas.
