Innocent Emeghara (born May 29, 1989 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian - Swiss football player . From 2011 to 2013 he played in the position of striker in the Swiss national team .
Player career
society
The native Nigerian came to Switzerland to Winterthur at the age of 13 and played for FC Töss , FC Winterthur and FC Zurich during his youth . From the 2006/07 season he was in the 1st division , the third division of Switzerland, for the U-21 team of FC Zurich. In the next three seasons he received more appearances in the first division and in the 2008/09 season he made the leap into the regular formation, but he was never used in the professional team of FC Zurich in the Super League .
For the 2009/10 season Emeghara moved to FC Winterthur in the Challenge League , where he immediately made his breakthrough. He finished the season together with Frédéric Besseyre from Stade Nyonnais with 17 league goals in fourth place in the scorers list. Thus he became interesting for the teams from the Super League and the Grasshopper Club Zurich signed him in July 2010. At the Hoppers he impressed with his enormous speed immediately after his arrival. In August 2011 he scored his first hat trick in the Super League in the away game against Servette Geneva .
At the end of August 2011, he moved to Ligue 1 club FC Lorient , where he signed a four-year contract. In his first appearance with his new club in the away game against FC Sochaux , he scored the goal to make it 1-1.
In January 2013 Emeghara moved to the Italian Serie A for AC Siena . In 17 games he scored seven goals, but could not prevent relegation to Serie B. Then Emeghara was loaned to AS Livorno for the 2013/14 season. He scored four goals in 30 league games.
After Emeghara's parent club AC Siena had been dissolved, he moved to the Azerbaijani Premyer Liqası to Qarabağ Ağdam on a free transfer . His contract was terminated on January 5, 2015 after eight appearances in which Emeghara scored five goals. Emeghara then trained with his ex-club FC Winterthur and played as part of the Hamburger SV training camp in Dubai . Despite the fact that he behaved "fabulously" during the training camp and the test match against Odense BK, according to Peter Knäbel , director of professional football at HSV, Emeghara did not receive a contract in Hamburg.
From January 31, 2015 to December 31, 2016, Emeghara played with the San José Earthquakes .
National player
In October 2010 he received Swiss citizenship and then said that he was hoping for a squad for the Swiss national soccer team . After several appearances in the U-21 national team, he was called up for the first time in the elite for the Swiss national football team in May 2011 and made his debut against England on June 4, 2011. In June 2011, he played at the 2011 U-21 European Championship with Switzerland and reached the 2nd place behind Spain. He was a regular player and his speed brought the opponents into great difficulties again and again.
