The 1987 Fotbollsallsvenskan was the 63rd season of the top Swedish football league . The regular season was played between April 12 and October 4, 1987, after which the Swedish championship was played in a final round up to October 31.
Although only third in the table in the regular round, IFK Gothenburg prevailed in the finals against IFK Norrköping and in the finals against leaders of the regular season Malmö FF and won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish national champions. For the team trained by Gunder Bengtsson around the Swedish Footballer of the Year Peter Larsson , Tord Holmgren , Per Edmund Mordt , Stefan Pettersson and Thomas Wernersson , it was the eleventh championship title in the club's history. At the end of the table, Halmstads BK and IF Elfsborg occupied the relegation places.
