Thomas Lundin (born April 13, 1961 ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker made his career in Sweden and Germany.

Career

Lundin started playing football at the Stockholm district club Mälarhöjdens IK . Before the start of the first division season in 1983 , he joined local rivals Hammarby IF in the Allsvenskan . At the side of Peter Gerhardsson , Billy Ohlsson and Mats Werner , he played on the offensive of the team that reached the cup final against IFK Gothenburg in the summer of that year . It was lost with a 0-1 defeat, but since the opponent had won the championship under Sven-Göran Eriksson and Gunder Bengtsson at the end of the previous year , the club qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1983/84 . After Lundin had joined the top scorer list in the 4-0 first leg win over Albanian representative KS 17. Nëntori Tirana , the team moved into the next round despite a 2-1 defeat in the second leg. There the team failed after extra time in the second leg at the Finnish cup winner Valkeakosken Haka .

In the first few years still a supplementary player, he only sporadically made it into the championship semi-finals in 1984, in which IFK Norrköping prevailed on penalties after each 0-0 draw in two legs. This meant that the club had qualified for the 1985/86 UEFA Cup . In the meantime he has become a regular player, both in the first round against Pirin Blagoewgrad and in the second round duel with FC St. Mirren as a goalscorer. Despite two goals from Per Holmberg in the first leg and a goal from Michael Andersson in the second leg he left the club after a 2: 1 home win in the third round due to a 1: 3 defeat in the return leg against eventual finalists 1. FC Köln from .

Under the coaches Björn Bolling , Lars Wass and Hans Backe , Lundin regularly placed with the club in the front midfield between 1985 and 1987, but missed the return to the championship finals with the team around players like Ulf Eriksson , Thomas Dennerby and Sten-Ove Ramberg . In the 1987 season , however, he achieved a personal success, as the club's best scorer with twelve goals this season, he placed tied with Mats Magnusson behind top scorer Lasse Larsson from Malmö FF in second place on the top scorer list of the Swedish elite series. With nine goals he was one of the top ten goalscorers in the league in the following year, not least due to the weakness of his teammates - Hammarby IF scored a total of 19 goals this season - the team only got 13 plus points and was relegated bottom of the table.

After the end of the season in autumn, Lundin then left Sweden and joined the German club Hertha BSC from Berlin for the winter break . In the 2nd Bundesliga he played alongside Wolfgang Patzke , Michael Jakobs , Walter Junghans and Theo Gries . Although he scored a goal on his second outing, a 2-1 win over VfL Osnabrück , the club decided against a permanent commitment.

In the second division season in 1989 Lundins Club Hammarby IF delivered a duel with local rivals Vasalunds IF for promotion to the Allsvenskan. It was only on the last day of the match that he and his team surpassed the competition when the goal fell in stoppage time to 6-0 victory over Karlstad BK , which led to the same goal difference with the same number of points . With 15 goals this season, Lundin had a decisive role in the fact that his club had scored six more goals than their rivals with 49 goals this season and thus led the table.

After the direct relegation, Lundin remained loyal to the club. Before the start of the second division season, he celebrated winning the indoor championship with the club. The club was also successful outside the hall and moved into the relegation and promotion round to Allsvenskan as the leader of its second division season. There were two points missing from Gothenburg club Västra Frölunda IF as fifth in the table to at least reach the relegation place.
