Fotbollsallsvenskan 1996

The 1997 Fotbollsallsvenskan was the 73rd season of the top Swedish football league . Between April 6 and October 26, 1997, the Swedish football champions were played in it.

Halmstads BK won the Von Rosens Cup as Swedish champion for the third time after 1976 and 1979 . The team supervised by Tom Prahl with players like Torbjörn Arvidsson , top scorer Mats Lilienberg , Jesper Mattsson , Stefan Selakovic and Håkan Svensson relegated last year's champions IFK Göteborg and Malmö FF to their places.

At the end of the table, Östers IF and newly promoted Västerås SK reached the relegation places . While Östers IF was able to prevail, Västerås SK had to go into the second division. Degerfors IF and newly promoted Ljungskile SK , who occupied the direct relegation places, accompanied the club from the province of Västmanland in Division 1 .
