history

Seckbach's war memorial

A warrior memorial for the Seckbachers who fell during the German Wars of Unification in 1864, 1866 and 1870/71 stands in front of the churchyard of the Marienkirche . It has a cuboid base with an obelisk-like attachment in which the name and dedication are carved.

The memorial for those killed in Seckbach during the First World War was erected and ceremoniously inaugurated in 1930 in the recently completed Lohrpark on the Lohrberg in Frankfurt-Seckbach, which is part of the Berger ridge, by a resolution of the city council . The Seckbach district association and numerous other local associations sent representatives in tails and top hats with association flags and honorary wreaths to commemorate the 125 Seckbach fallen on fifteen metal plaques.

Almost fifty years after the end of the Second World War , the city administration of Frankfurt decided to dedicate the memorial to those who died in Seckbach, which was done on November 23, 1993 by putting up a corresponding plaque.

Wreaths and flower arrangements are laid on the occasion of Eternal Sunday or Sunday of the Dead and the anniversary of the liberation on May 8th (1945).

The outer wall of the memorial, defaced by graffiti , was cleaned in 2014. So far, however, no means have been found against the use of the forecourt as a drinker's meeting place .
