The Heimatmuseum Seckbach is a museum in Frankfurt am Main , which was set up in the Seckbach district with the support of the Institute for Urban History of the City of Frankfurt am Main .

General

The house, which opened on January 24, 2004, is managed by the 1954 Frankfurt a. M.-Seckbach e. V. worn. It is housed in the former Pedellhaus of the New School (today: Zentgrafenschule ), a half-timbered house on the school grounds facing Wilhelmshöher Strasse . The Marienkirche (1710) and the historic Lutheran schoolhouse (1709) are diagonally opposite .

Since the association had been using the upper floor of this house as an archive and work space for years, it seemed obvious to use the rooms on the ground floor as exhibition space and the building as Seckbach's local history museum . With the support of the responsible local advisory council, a corresponding contract was signed with the city of Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2002. This provides that the Seckbacher culture and history association can use the entire pedell house.

With the support of the Frankfurt Institute for Urban History , a concept was drawn up in 2003 for the future use of the building as a local museum in Seckbach. The renovation and modernization of the rooms as well as parts of the furniture were carried out through a large number of personal contributions by the association members, whereby their professional qualifications could be used. The costs for these measures could therefore be significantly reduced.

On the occasion of the opening exhibition, visitors were given an insight into the development of Seckbach in the period from 880 to 1918, from the first documentary mention of the place Seckibah by Ludwig the Younger , a great-grandson of Charlemagne , until the end of the First World War .

The numerous exhibits in this exhibition were supplemented from September 2005 by the period of the 20th century with the exhibition Seckbach - From the village to the district .

The exhibition on the village's agriculture , which has been accessible since March 15, 2009, is dedicated to the centuries-old livelihood of most Seckbach residents . It also contains numerous references to local viticulture , which was already mentioned on the occasion of the second documentary mention in the year 882, i.e. was first documented in the 9th century. Viticulture later became the property of the Frankfurt Carmelite Monastery , but was secularized in 1803 and transferred to the city of Frankfurt am Main. Today it uses the Rheingau -Weinberg Lohrberger Hang , which was laid out in 1924 together with the Lohrpark on the Lohrberg , the last remaining vineyard in the Frankfurt urban area.

The culture and history association 1954 Frankfurt a. M.-Seckbach e. V. is currently supported by around 175 members and donors. Lecture series and excursions are offered. The association also takes part in local open-air events with information stands. The Seckbacher Kultur- und Geschichtsverein maintains two working groups, the local history research group and the culture group. The association publishes an information sheet twice a year, which can also be downloaded as a PDF file from the association's website .

From the Seckbach citizens' estate, the association regularly receives documents from the historical development of the place or district, such as photographs, diary entries, drawings, paintings, documents and even unique items such as historical district plans.
