Simon Helg (born April 10, 1990 in Eskilstuna ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder has gone through all of the Svenska Fotbollförbundet up to the U-19 team since his debut in the Swedish U-15 team.

Career

Helg started playing football in the youth team of Skogstorp GoIF in his hometown Eskilstuna before moving to the youth department of the traditional IFK Eskilstuna club. There he caught the eye of those responsible for the Swedish Football Association and made his debut in the first international youth game of his year on August 23, 2005 in a 3-1 away win against the Finnish U-15 youth team in the national jersey, which he scored with a 2-0 lead could crown. As a result, he was able to assert himself in the youth selections and, after he moved up to the lower-class men's team of IFK Eskilstuna despite his young age, also made himself interesting for higher-class teams.

In November 2006, Helg announced his move to Stockholm club Hammarby IF in January of the following year . Initially, the 17-year-old ran for the lower-class playing farm team Hammarby Talang FF , but still held his own in the national association's youth selections. On October 8, 2007 he made his debut in the Allsvenskan when coach Tony Gustavsson set him up in the 2-0 home defeat to Helsingborgs IF at the side of Louay Chanko , Sebastián Eguren and Sebastian Castro-Tello in the starting lineup. Due to minor injuries, he then failed to earn a regular place. Nevertheless, Hammarby IF decided in October 2008 to extend his contract and tied the player to the club until 2012. At the beginning of 2009, the U-21 national team coaching duo Jörgen Lennartsson and Tommy Söderberg appointed him to the squad of the new U-21 age group, but he canceled the international trip to Belgium in March. In the course of the following season he established himself as a regular player, but despite four goals in the season, he could not prevent the club's relegation to the Superettan at the end of the 2009 season .

Helg stayed loyal to Hammarby IF in the second division. After he was only able to place with the club in the middle of the table until the summer, a change in the summer transfer period was in the room. Ultimately, he stayed with the club despite the missed promotion, although he was only used irregularly in the second division season 2011 .

In March 2012, Helg announced his departure from Hammarby IF and joined the first division promoted GIF Sundsvall , with whom he signed a four-year contract. At the side of Fredrik Holster , Stefan Ålander and Ari Freyr Skúlason , he was a regular with 26 season appearances, but only occupied the relegation place with the club . Although he met the 4: 3 return success against the second division third Halmstads BK to the final score, after the 3-0 defeat in the first leg, the team was relegated to the Superettan.
