Stefan Ålander (born April 25, 1983 in Sundsvall ) is a former Swedish football player . The defensive player played for GIF Sundsvall and Kalmar FF in the Allsvenskan .

Career

Ålander started playing football at IFK Timrå . In 2002, the defensive all-rounder moved to GIF Sundsvall in the Allsvenskan. At the same time, he played his way into the squad of the Swedish U-21 team , to which he was a regular until 2005. At his new club he was used regularly in the following seasons, but mostly he was only used as a substitute. It was only in the 2005 season that he was able to establish himself permanently in the starting XI. Nevertheless, he was relegated at the end of the year with the club, but remained loyal to him in the Superettan. At the end of the second division season in 2007 , the Ålander , who had meanwhile been named team captain , managed to return to the Swedish elite series with his team, but there the promoted team as penultimate missed relegation. In the second division he was initially loyal to the club and played eight games in the Superettan.

In the summer of 2009, Ålander left the club from the province of Medelpad and returned to the Allsvenskan. He signed a three-and-a-half year contract with last year's champions Kalmar FF . He established himself in his first half series for the new club as a regular player and played 13 of his 15 league games up to the end of the first division season 2009 from the start, but lost his regular place in the course of the following season.

Just before the end of the winter transfer period , Ålander returned to GIF Sundsvall in March 2011. At the side of Pontus Engblom , Fredrik Holster and Emil Forsberg , he rose to the Allsvenskan at the end of the second division season 2011 . With the team trained by Sören Åkeby , he was mostly a regular player in midfield for a long time, but slipped to the relegation place in the last third of the season . In the 3-0 defeat in the first leg against Halmstads BK substitute, he was part of the starting line-up again in the second leg, but the 4-3 success was too little to keep up. In the following second division season he was still a regular player, then he increasingly moved into the second tier due to various injuries. For example, he had played eight games for promotion to the Allsvenskan at the end of the second division season in 2014 . After 15 top division games in the 2015 season , he was only used twice for the team in the top division due to injury, so the contract was not extended. In November 2016, he therefore announced the end of his career.
