Sebastián Eguren , full name Sebastián Eguren Ledesma , (born January 8, 1981 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player . In addition to his Uruguayan citizenship, he also has Swedish citizenship.

Career

society

Eguren took his first football steps at the age of five with El Hornero . With this team he won championships in 1986 and 1991. He then moved to Montevideo Wanderers FC , where he went through all youth teams in the following years. He began his professional career in 1999 at the same club in the Primera División . At the Bohemios he played under coach Daniel Carreño until 2002 and rose to become team captain. A detour to Nacional Montevideo followed . At this club, whose fan he was since childhood, he was banned for six months in April 2004 after a positive doping result, which was confirmed in a second analysis in March 2004. During his time at Nacional, Daniel Carreño, Santiago Ostolaza and Hugo de León also looked after the club. With the Bolsos he came to a total of 39 missions, in which he scored five goals.

After his brief return to the Wanderers, where Daniel Carreño was his coach again at that time, he moved to Europe in July 2005 after 15 games (3 goals) and went to Rosenborg BK . Under the aegis of Per-Mathias Høgmo , he was used 23 times (no goal). It was then awarded to Hammarby IF in Sweden in the summer of 2006 . By 2008 he scored 13 goals in 36 games under coach Tony Gustavsson and he became one of the pillars of the team. In December 2006 he was signed by the first division club in exchange for Fredrik Stoor and received a contract until 2009.

For the second half of the 2007/2008 season, Sebastián Eguren was loaned to the Spanish first division club Villarreal . Villarreal FC, where he quickly gained a foothold and formed a solid midfield tandem with Marcos Senna , took the option to buy and committed Eguren to June 30, 2011 for 1.3 million euros. By 2009 he came to the Spanish club under coaches Manuel Pellegrini and Ernesto Valverde on 62 games, in which only one goal could be recorded for him. After Lazio had in the meantime expressed an interest in Eguren's commitment, such a change failed because the President of Lazio expressed concerns about Eguren's state of health.

In July 2010 Eguren signed a three-year contract with Sporting Gijón after playing for six months for the Swedes from AIK Solna , who were coached by Mikael Stahre . His coach there was Manuel Preciado . While he was able to record 30 league appearances (one goal) in his first season with the Spaniards, only 19 more (two goals) were added in the second season.

After the relegation of Sporting Gijón to the second Spanish division, Eguren moved to the Paraguayan first division club Club Libertad in Asunción and signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year. With the club he won the Clausura 2012.

He completed a total of 26 games in the championship with the Paraguayans and scored four goals. He was also used in three games of the Copa Libertadores. At the beginning of July 2013, Eguren terminated his contract with Libertad after he had received little time in the Apertura 2013 and Copa Libertadores. On July 5, 2013, he signed an 18-month contract with SE Palmeiras in São Paulo (at the time participant in Série B in Brazil). With the Brazilians he played 25 times in the league (three goals) and once (no goal) in the Copa do Brasil . At the end of January 2015 he returned to Uruguay and continued his career with the Montevideo Wanderers. Eguren, who had been signed by the Wanderers especially with a view to the upcoming Copa Libertadores participation, said goodbye on February 11, 2015 before the start of this tournament and three days before the start of the Clausura without a competitive game and tied himself in As part of a loan deal to the Argentine club CA Colón . Wanderers club president Fernando Nopitsch said that they did not want to obstruct Eguren's career. He played eight first division games (no goal) and one game (no goal) in the Copa Argentina for the Argentines . In July 2015, he terminated his contract there and then continued his career at Nacional Montevideo. With the "Bolsos" he played in eleven first division games (no goal), three times (no goal) in the Copa Sudamericana 2015 and four times (no goal) in the Copa Libertadores 2016 in the 2015/16 season .

National team

Egure belonged to the 2001 Uruguayan U-20 team , which took part in the 2001 U-20 South American Championship in Ecuador . There he was used at least in the 1-0 defeat in the group game against Colombia.

For the senior national team of Uruguay he made his debut on July 13, 2001 on the occasion of the Copa America 2001 in Colombia in the group game against Bolivia. Eguren took part in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and in the 2011 Copa America , where Uruguay won its 15th title. From June 15 to 30, 2013 he took part in the “Celeste” in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, in which the team finished fourth. His last appearance for the national team to date was on August 14, 2013. Including this game, 54 international appearances have been booked for Eguren so far. He scored seven goals.
