Manuel Preciado Rebolledo (born August 28, 1957 in El Astillero , Cantabria , † June 7, 2012 in Sueca ) was a Spanish football player and coach .

Career

Preciado played 59 Spanish first division appearances as a defender during his playing days . He played his first league game on April 5, 1978 for Racing Santander in the 3-0 loss to UD Salamanca in the Primera División . In his second season as a professional, in the 1978/79 season, he was relegated with Santander from the first division. In 1981 he managed to rise again with the club. A season later he left the club and from then on played at most second class for the clubs FC Linares, RCD Mallorca , Deportivo Alavés , CD Ourense and Gimnástica de Torrelavega .

Coaching career

Racing Santander

The first notable station of Manuel Preciado as a coach was the Tercera División Club Gimnástica de Torrelavega . After a year he took over Racing Santander B in the 1996/97 season. He then took a three-year break before returning to the position of coach of Racing B in 2000. In the summer of 2002, Manuel Preciado took over the first team from Racing Santander , which in the 2001/02 season had just been promoted to second in the Primera División. With racing he could achieve relegation.

Promotion fight

For the 2003/04 season, Preciado UD Levante took over and achieved promotion at the first attempt. Even though his team had made the leap to excellence, Manuel Preciado stayed in the Segunda División and went to Real Murcia . After the failed promotion, he switched to racing again. With the Cantabrians he was just one point ahead of Deportivo Alavés .

Since 2006 Manolo Preciado coached the second division Sporting Gijón . In the 2007/08 season he managed to lead the traditional club back into the Primera División. In the following three years he successfully saved the club from relegation. On January 31, 2012, he was released from his club.

In early June Preciado agreed to coach the Spanish football club Villarreal CF in the 2012/13 season , which had been relegated to the Segunda División after the 2011/12 season . Just one day later, he died of a heart attack.
