Jörgen Lennartsson (born April 10, 1965 in Växjö ) is a Swedish football coach . At the beginning of his coaching career he was particularly active in the youth field, and in 2012 he won the Swedish championship title with IF Elfsborg .

Career

Lennartsson started playing football in his hometown at Växjö Norra IF . In 1984 he moved to the lower-class amateur club FK Växjö , where he ended his playing career early in 1986.

Parallel to his short-term playing career, Lennartsson committed himself early on as a coach. First he worked at his hometown club Växjö Norra IF as a youth coach. In 1989 he looked after a season Vederslöv / Dänningelanda IF before he was hired as a youth coach at Östers IF and in the U-20 team of the club of the A-team supervised by Hans Backe supplied talents.

In 1994 Lennartsson moved to Helsingborgs IF as a youth coach . Here he looked after the U-20 team for six years. In 2000 the club promoted him to Nanne Bergstrand's assistant coach . With the reigning champions he reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League , in which the team finished last after beating Rosenborg BK and drawing against Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain . In addition, the runner-up behind Halmstads BK succeeded in the Allsvenkan season 2000 . After a fifth place in the following year, the commitment Bergstrands and Lennartssons at the club was over.

Before the start of the second division season in 2002 , Lennartsson took over his first job as head coach at Gothenburg club BK Häcken . With last year's relegation he only missed the relegation place to Allsvenskan as fourth in the table because of the poorer goal difference compared to local rivals Västra Frölunda IF . The following year he led the team to this place, where he failed with the club after a 2-1 home defeat despite a 1-0 away win due to the away goals rule at GIF Sundsvall . The third season was more successful. With 19 wins in 30 games this season, the championship of the second division succeeded with seven points ahead of the second place occupied by Gefle IF .

Shortly after the end of the season, Lennartsson announced that he did not want to extend his contract despite the promotion. Lennartsson left BK Häcken and moved to Svenska Fotbollförbundet as an association coach . There he was on the one hand assistant to Tommy Söderberg in the Swedish U-21 national team and on the other hand took over the U-17 selection as head coach. After a year he was promoted to U-21 coach as an equal partner of Söderberg. After the team failed in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 2007 , the duo led the selection at the European Championship final round tournament in 2009 to the semi-finals, in which they were subject to the English selection .

In August 2010, Lennartsson announced his return to club football in January 2011. The new employer was the Norwegian club Stabæk IF , where he inherited his outgoing compatriot Jan Jönsson , who had taken over the Norwegian record champions Rosenborg BK as the successor to Nils Arne Eggen . However, the economic conditions turned out to be less good, in the summer the club Veigar Páll Gunnarsson and Henning Hauger had to give up for financial reasons. When the Swedish club IF Elfsborg was looking for a successor at the end of the Allsvenskan season in 2011 due to the departure of long-time coach Magnus Haglund , he was therefore the first candidate - although they tried to keep him in Norway and praised him for his professional attitude.

In November 2011, Lennartsson's involvement with IF Elfsborg was reported in the Swedish press from the Allsvenskan season in 2012 , and he was officially presented there on November 29th. At the end of his first season of responsibility, he led the team around Oscar Hiljemark , Stefan Ishizaki , Lars Nilsson and Niklas Hult to the Swedish championship title. In the following season, however, the team did not build on the success and succeeded in the middle of the table. On September 30, 2013 Elfsborg announced the immediate separation from Lennartsson.

At the end of November 2014, IFK Göteborg signed Lennartsson as the successor to head coach Mikael Stahre, who was dismissed at the end of the 2014 season, and signed a three-year contract.
