Sebastian Castro-Tello (born March 14, 1987 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who played for several Swedish youth selections, made his debut for Hammarby IF in Swedish professional football in 2006 .

Career

Castro-Tello started playing football at Norsborgs IF at the age of eight , but quickly moved on to Essinge IK . There his talent was discovered by those in charge of Hammarby IF and after two seasons he moved to the youth department of the traditional club in 1998. In 2003 he was accepted into the squad of Hammarby Talang FF , the farm team of HIF , in order to gain gaming experience in the lower-class amateur area.

For the 2006 season Castro-Tello returned to Hammarby IF in the Allsvenskan. There he signed a long-term contract until 2009, but was initially only used with the reserve team. On July 17, 2006 he finally came in the 2-0 home win against Östers IF in the local Söderstadion to his first division debut when he came on in the 85th minute for the Brazilian Paulinho Guará . In the further course of the season he was still part of the squad of the competition team, but only came to three other short appearances as a substitute. In November of that year he scored his first competitive goal for HIF as part of the Royal League against the Danish representative Brøndby IF .

Under the newly signed coach Tony Gustavsson Castro-Tello found himself in the starting line-up at the beginning of the following season. In the opening match against GAIS he scored his first goal in the league with a 1-1 draw in the 10th minute of the game. Nevertheless, he could not earn a regular place in the long term and soon found himself on the bench. Nevertheless, he was called up by Tommy Söderberg in the Swedish U-21 team and made his debut in the jersey of the junior national team on June 5, 2007, when this 0-0 draw was separated from the Swiss junior national team . In the summer he also played for HIF in the second qualifying round for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup and scored the 2-0 goal in a 2-1 first leg win against Fredrikstad FK . After Sebastián Eguren equalized 1: 1 with a penalty in the last minute of the second leg, the Castro-Tellos team reached the first main round, where they played at Portuguese club Sporting Braga after a 2-1 home win with a 0: 4 away defeat failed. While he was on the pitch for almost every game in the U21 team, he wavered between the starting line-up and bench in the Allsvenskan and ultimately played 16 games this season in which he scored four goals.

Even in his third year in the Allsvenskan, Castro-Tello could not finally earn a regular place. Several injuries slowed the midfielder back over the course of the season. Nevertheless, as in the previous year, he made 16 first division appearances. In the 2009 season he achieved his breakthrough when he was able to play as a regular at the side of Igor Armaş , Christian Traoré and Fredrik Söderström and was in the starting line-up in 24 games this season. Nevertheless, it was not enough to keep up, but he remained loyal to the club in the second-rate Superettan . Although he scored eight goals and his club mate Linus Hallenius was crowned top scorer of the second division season 2010 with 18 goals this season , the team missed direct promotion. In the following years he was only partially a regular player. In October 2012 there were rumors of a separation, particularly due to his lax attitude, but ultimately he stayed with coach Gregg Berhalter 's team.
