On February 6, 2008 he ran against Greece for the first time in the national jersey.

After 15 and 10 league games, which Halsti played for the new club in his first two seasons, he was seriously injured in the 2010 season and missed almost the entire season. He was only accrued in seven games of the season when the team won the championship. Even in the episode he did not prevail at first, but was part of the extended national team. Four years after his debut, he took part in the selection at the Baltic Cup 2012 in Estonia; Finland lost in the final in the decisive penalty shoot-out against Latvia .

From the 2013 season Halsti fought for a regular place at his club. He made 28 appearances under coach Rikard Norling when the team won the championship again. In the following season he was one of the top performers under new coach Åge Hareide , when the club defended their title in the Swedish championship and qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history .
