Career
Player career
Björknesjö played for various clubs in his youth. After he had started playing football at club level at Högdalens AIS in 1978, he came through IFK Tumba , Norsborgs IF and one season again at IFK Tumba in 1991 in the youth of the Stockholm club Djurgårdens IF . In 1993, the offensive player joined the second division Vasalunds IF . With the club he played for promotion to Allsvenskan , which he narrowly missed with the team. However, he had drawn attention to higher class and the local rival AIK secured the young talent in early 1995. As the third attacker behind Pascal Simpson and Dick Lidman , he started the season on the bench, but was also in the starting line-up at times. With goals each in the local derby against Hammarby IF and his ex-club Djurgårdens IF, he made himself the “Derby hero” of the year. In the further course of the 1995 season , however, he had to pause due to pain after eleven season games and three goals. After the rheumatic disease Bechterew's disease was diagnosed, he finally ended his active career.
Trainer in the lower class league area
First Björknesjö returned to IFK Tumba , where he worked as a junior coach and later coach of the lower-class first team. In 2001 he briefly looked after the fourth division club Huddinge IF , before he started working as an assistant coach at IF Brommapojkarna in 2003 . After he had missed promotion to the Superettan in the relegation games with third division club Väsby IK the following year , he took over league rivals Syrianska FC in 2005 . Even with this team, he missed promotion to the second division in the relegation round. He was then responsible for the team at fourth division club Värtans IK , but lost his post in 2007 when the club was relegated from the league.
Björknesjö took over the offspring of IF Brommapojkarna after his dismissal, which he led to the Swedish championship in 2008. Then the second division Assyriska Föreningen signed him from the 2009 season after the club had not extended the contract of the previous coach Michael Borgqvist . Although he kept in contact with the team on the promotion places, after slipping to seventh place in the table at the end of September of that year, he was dismissed.
Descent from the Allsvenskan and ascent
Shortly before the end of the 2010 premier league season , IF Brommapojkarna parted ways with his coach Kim Bergstrand and presented Björknesjö as his successor. In the remaining four games in the Allsvenskan, however, he remained without a win and missed with the team around Kim Odelius , Pontus Segerström , Olof Guterstam and Kristoffer Nordfeldt, among other things after significant defeats against the eventual champions Malmö FF (0: 4 home defeat) and BK Häcken (0: 5 away defeat) as bottom of the table to keep the league. Nevertheless, shortly after the end of the season he signed a new, two-seasons contract with the Stockholm club.
In the second division season 2011 Björknesjö's team played for a long time for promotion, but ended up in sixth place in the table at the end of the season. In particular, driven by Pablo Piñones-Arce , who was second division top scorer with 18 goals this season, he led the team around Tim Björkström , Pontus Segerström , Nabil Bahoui and Niklas Westberg to second place in the table behind Östers IF and thus to promotion to the Allsvenskan. There she was in a relegation battle for a long time, in the end the season ended in the last non-relegation place after a 2-2 draw on the last day of the game against the direct competitor Halmstads BK , who only secured relegation in relegation. In early December 2013, he announced his departure from the club.
