Pontus Segerström (born February 17, 1981 in Stockholm , † October 13, 2014 there ) was a Swedish football player . The defender made his career in his home country as well as in Denmark and Norway . With Stabæk Fotball he won the Norwegian championship title in 2008.

Career

Segerström came from the youth of the Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna , for whom he made his adult debut in 1998. At that time, the team was still playing in the lower-class Swedish Division 2 and rose to the next higher Swedish Division 1 at the end of the game year . The team only stayed there for one year and was then again represented in Division 2 in the Östra Svealand relay for two years . With the team he rose to the second-rate Superettan at the end of 2001 and was one of the top performers in the club. In the summer of 2004 he accepted an offer from the Danish club Odense BK . At his own request, he signed a six-month contract instead of the three-year contract offered to him; after the contract expired, he returned to Sweden for personal reasons.

The new club Segerströms was Landskrona BoIS, who competed in Allsvenskan . In the 2005 season he was with the club in a relegation battle; Ultimately, he and the team around Jonas Sandqvist , Jon Jönsson , Jörgen Pettersson and Anders Friberg finished the season one point behind Gefle IF in third from last place and relegated to the second division. As fifth in the table, he missed direct recovery with the club; he then accepted an offer from Norway and joined Stabæk Fotball in the Tippeligaen . After the runner-up in the first year, he won the national championship title on the side of Morten Skjønsberg , Veigar Páll Gunnarsson , Jon Inge Høiland , Mike Kjølø and his compatriot Daniel Nannskog in the 2008 season.

In early 2010 Segerström returned to his hometown club IF Brommapojkarna, which had meanwhile been promoted to the first division. There he was also a regular player, but could not prevent the relegation of his team. In the following two seasons he only missed one game, at the end of the second division season in 2012 he returned to the top class with the club. Under coach Roberth Björknesjö , the team held the class at the end of the season, Segerström had also contributed to this with a season goal in 20 league games. Under the new head coach Stefan Billborn , the team captain was also one of the regular players in the 2014 season.

In August 2014, he complained of a headache and was diagnosed with a brain tumor a few days later . Less than two months later, at the age of 33, he succumbed to this condition. On October 14th, Svensk Elitfotboll decided that the teams of the two highest Swedish leagues will wear a mourning ribbon on the following match day and commemorate the deceased with a minute's silence ; It was also said that his home club would set up a fund in his name for the benefit of young footballers. In the subsequent game of his club against AIK , AIK striker Henok Goitom played the ball in the second minute - Segerström's shirt number at BP was the "2" - so that afterwards the supporters of both clubs to applause with players and responsible persons could raise.
