Morten Morisbak Skjønsberg (born February 12, 1983 in Bærum ) is a Norwegian football player .
In 2008 he received the Kniksenprisen as "Defender of the Year" in the Tippeligaen .
Club career
Skjønsberg began his career in the youth of the small clubs Bærums Verk IF and Helset IF, before being scouted by the region's big club, Stabæk Fotball, in 2001.
After a year in which he switched between the youth and second team from Stabæk, he made his debut in 2002 for two appearances in the professional team. At the end of the 2003 season he was able to fight for the first time next to André Muri a regular place in the team's central defense. After the strong 2003 season and several departures from various top performers, the club surprisingly rose in 2004 as the penultimate in the Adeccoligaen . While Muri then left the club for Vålerenga Oslo , Skjønsberg stayed loyal to Stabæk despite some offers from Norway.
In the 2005 season, the never endangered return to the top of the table in the Tippeligaen followed . In addition to the top purchases Daniel Nannskog & Alanzinho , who provided the best offensive in the league, Skjønsberg developed into the team's only constant defensive team alongside constantly changing defense partners.
In 2006, Stabæk became the surprise team of the season. They had strengthened themselves with other offensive forces such as the Cameroonian Somen Tchoyi , or there was an explosion in performance of the Icelandic player Veigar Páll Gunnarsson , who up until now had been rather inconspicuous , which helped the club again to the strongest offensive in the league. On the contrary, they had blatant defensive problems throughout the season, which Skjønsberg could not fix either. Apparently, after the departure of Muri, it was not possible to adequately fill the vacant central defender position. Even after a year of his departure, this led to a constant castling of the central defenders, which meant that no well-rehearsed duo could form.
With the commitment of defensive all-rounder Jon Inge Høiland , the defensive problems in the following season were largely eliminated. With a partly big playing Skjønsberg, the club played for the championship title for a long time and reached the second place in the table at the end of the season.
In 2008 the team was able to improve again and won the championship title in the Tippeligaen for the first time in the club's history. Skjønsberg played an outstanding season and had a large share in winning the title. At the end of the season he was honored with the Kniksenprisen as "Defender of the Year" in Norway and the nomination for Team of the Year.
In the following season there was a wholesale sale in the team. Except for Nannskog and Skjønsberg, all top performers left the team and switched to foreign leagues. In central defense, too, Skjønsberg had to adapt to two new secondary players who took turns with Fredrik Risp and Pontus Segerström . Only at the end of the season did he form a constant duo with the young star Thomas Rogne . The season was largely disappointing for Stabæk. At the international level they were eliminated early in the Europa League qualification against Valencia CF , in the league they did not manage to defend their title and were only third in the table. Only the win of the superfinals , which Skjønsberg was allowed to receive as captain of the team, compensated for the rather weak season.
National team
After moving to Stabæk, he advanced to the youth national team of his country. As a result, he became an important pillar in defense for the Norwegian U-21 national team over 3 years.
On November 19, 2008, he made his debut in the 1-0 defeat in the friendly against Ukraine in Dnepropetrovsk in the Norwegian national team .
