Somen Alfred Tchoyi (born March 29, 1983 in Douala , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian national football player . With FC Red Bull Salzburg , the midfielder was twice national champion and footballer of the year in Austria. Previously, he was Norway's Player of the Year in 2007.
Career
Tchoyi began his career in his native Cameroon with PMUC Douala and moved to city rivals Union Douala in 2004 before the Norwegian club Odd Grenland noticed him. After performing well in the Oddrane dress, he moved to Stabæk Fotball in 2006 . In 2008 he signed a contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria .
On his debut for Salzburg, on matchday 1 against SV Mattersburg , he scored a goal. Three game days before the end of the 2008/09 season , he won the championship with Salzburg . In the 2009/10 season , Tchoyi played a major role in the success of Salzburg in the Europa League and in winning the championship again. In the Europa League group stage, in which Salzburg was group first with six wins from six games, he scored goals against Villarreal and Lazio Rome , overcoming the defense against the Romans with two heel tricks and ultimately overtaking the goalkeeper. At the end of the season he was voted player of the season in a vote by the coaches, managers and presidents of the Austrian Bundesliga clubs. During his time in Salzburg, he also drew attention to himself with a hit and run accident. On September 21, 2008, at around 3:45 a.m., he rammed a taxi not far from his former venue in Wals-Siezenheim while drunk and after a priority violation with his company car, injuring the driver. After that, the Cameroonian also committed a hit-and-run, but was caught by the police a little later. Tchoyi's driver's license was immediately taken away and in May 2009 he was fined 100 daily rates of € 500 . Overall, the international total costs of more than 68,000 €, of which 22,000 € fell on charitable purposes, which were imposed as a fine by the association, and 28,000 € from claims by the driver of the accident. The rest is divided into costs for administrative penalties, insurance recourse and the cost of the car. He had previously been sentenced to one month of parole in February 2009; however, this judgment was deleted shortly afterwards.
In 2010 Tchoyi joined West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League , where he signed a two-year deal. This expired in summer 2012. Then he completed various trial training courses; including in August 2012 at Birmingham City . In October of the same year he also completed a trial training session with the Wolverhampton Wanderers .
In January 2013 Tchoyi signed a contract with the German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg until the end of the 2012/13 season with an option to extend. He made his Bundesliga debut on March 30, 2013 (27th matchday) in the 2-0 defeat in the home game against Hannover 96 with the substitution for Torsten Oehrl in the 72nd minute. Augsburg did not extend the contract at the end of the season, so Tchoyi had to leave the club. After his brief stint at Augsburg, Tchoyi was without a club for almost a year and a half before moving to Arema Malang for a short guest appearance in Indonesia in December 2014 . He then went back to Salzburg in July 2015, but to SV Austria Salzburg . His contract was terminated there in January 2016 after the club got into financial difficulties. In the summer of 2016 he was hired at UFC Markt Allhau.
National team
He made his debut for the national team of Cameroon on September 6, 2008 in the World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde and even scored the winning goal to make it 2-1. He took part in the 2010 Africa Cup with Cameroon , but was eliminated there in the quarter-finals against the subsequent Africa Cup winner Egypt . He was not nominated for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa due to an injury he sustained in the last league game at SK Sturm Graz .
