The Central Weather Bureau (CWB; Chinese  中央 氣象 局 ) is the state weather service of the Republic of China (Taiwan) . It is responsible for the collection of meteorological , seismological and astronomical data, the preparation of weather reports and forecasts and the publication of warnings for typhoons , earthquakes and tsunamis . The CWB reports to the Ministry of Transport ( 中華民國 交通部 ). Its headquarters are in Taipei , and it also has a weather center for southern Taiwan and 25 manned observation stations.

The CWB was founded in 1945 under the direct control of the Executive Yuan in Chongqing , and in 1949 it was relocated to Taiwan with the government of the Republic.

When reporting earthquakes, the CWB uses a variant of the JMA's seven-level intensity scale, which was used in Japan until 1996 .
