Jörgen Pettersson (born September 29, 1975 in Lackalange ) is a former Swedish football player and current coach .

Active career

Pettersson started his career at Dösjebro IF in Sweden and moved to Malmö FF at the beginning of his professional career . In 1995 he made the leap into the Bundesliga to Borussia Mönchengladbach . After 4 years and 114 Bundesliga games (32 goals) the striker moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , but could not really assert himself there and went to Denmark to FC Copenhagen after his contract expired . A year later, Pettersson moved back to his home country and played from 2004 to 2008 at Landskrona BoIS in the second Swedish league . In 2009 he played for the Swedish fourth division club Häljarps IF .

Pettersson made 27 appearances for the Swedish national team and scored eight goals. He was in the squad at the 2000 European Championships and came to two missions during the tournament.

Career as a coach

In the 2009 season, Pettersson was an assistant coach at his long-term club Landskrona BoIS. In 2012 he was again assistant coach at Malmö FF. At the end of 2012 it was announced that Pettersson will take over the coaching position at Landskrona from Henrik Larsson from 2013 .

Tragic accident

In 2001 Pettersson was involved in a serious traffic accident. He rammed his Mercedes on the Wörrstadt section of the A 63 into a small car that had recently had a minor accident at such high speed that the 20-year-old occupant of the opposing car died immediately.

Private

Pettersson is a member of the Swedish rock band "Soulweeper" (vocals and guitar), which was founded in 2004.
