Gerhard Löffler (church musician)

Gerhard Löffler (* 1979 in Wächtersbach , Hessen ) is a German church musician .

Life

At the age of 12 he began his organ lessons with local teachers, but in 1993 he went to Martin Lücker in Frankfurt as a private student . In 1997 he was accepted as a young student in Lücker's class at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, after having won the national organ competition (“Jugend musiziert”) in Leipzig. Since 1999 he has been studying Protestant church music and organ (artistic training) in Frankfurt.

Two scholarships, the Edward Jabes Scholarship and the Alice Tully Scholarship, enabled Gerhard Löffler to study at the Juilliard School of Music in New York for one year (2002–2003). From John Weaver , the nestor of the American organ school, and Judith Clurmann, the conductor of the "Juilliard Choral Union", he received significant artistic impulses; he also became Clurmann's assistant.

In May 2004, Gerhard Löffler won first prize at the 3rd Horst Dieter Veeck Organ Competition at the Saarland University of Music in Saarbrücken. At the organ competition of the international organ festival "Fugato" in Bad Homburg he was awarded a 3rd prize in summer 2005. In addition, Gerhard Löffler studied in the organ class of Ludger Lohmann , Stuttgart, and graduated from there with a diploma.

Gerhard Löffler has been playing organ concerts since he was 16 years old. Highlights were appearances in St. Nikolai , Leipzig, in the Alice Tully Hall, the Carnegie Hall and the Holy Trinity Church in New York, in the Frankfurt Paulskirche , in the Cathedral in Erfurt , in the Cathedral in Bamberg and in the concert hall “Georg Philipp Telemann " In Magdeburg and the world premiere of Dimitri Terzakis '" Friedensgebet "for soprano and organ at the 2003 Frankfurt Book Fair.

In 2008 Gerhard Löffler a. a. at the Gottfried Silbermann organ in Reinhardtsgrimma and in the Riga Cathedral . In the same year he was invited to the Stellwagen Organ Days in Stralsund.

Gerhard Löffler's repertoire includes works from all styles of organ music. From 2004 to 2007 he was the organist of the Martinus Church in Frankfurt-Schwanheim, on whose Schuke organ he recorded a CD with works by Bruhns, Bach, Reubke and Hindemith. From 2007 to 2012 he worked as a cantor and organist at the Protestant parish of Bockenheim.

From 2012 to 2016 he was cantor (A-position) of the evangelical parish “Zum guten Hirten” in Berlin-Friedenau and artistic director of the Jeunesse Berlin Chamber Choir . Since February 1, 2016, Löffler has been the successor to Rudolf Kelber as cantor and organist at the main church St. Jacobi in Hamburg.
