Jon Jönsson (born July 8, 1983 in Kristianstad ) is a Swedish football player .

career

Jönsson played in his youth at IFK Hässleholm before he was discovered by talent scouts and in 1999 moved to the youth department of Tottenham Hotspur . In addition to the transfer fee of around £ 70,000 , Peter Crouch moved to Sweden on loan for a year.

He was unable to assert himself in England and returned to Sweden in 2001, where he was hired by Malmö FF . With the club he became Swedish champion in 2004 . In the following season, however, he was awarded to Landskrona BoIS . After his return, he was used six times at MFF, but then moved during the season to league rivals IF Elfsborg , where he celebrated his second championship title. At the end of the season he was voted Defender of the Year by the Allsvenskan coaches . After he had played the first half of the following season in Sweden, he was signed in the summer of 2007 by the French first division club FC Toulouse . Here he could not prevail, however, and moved to Denmark to Brøndby IF for the 2008/09 season .

Jönsson has been under contract with IF Elfsborg again since July 2010.

Jönsson played for various youth teams in Sweden, including 27 games for the U21 national team. On the South American tour in early 2007 he was part of the squad of the Swedish national team , but was not used.
