David Accam (born September 28, 1990 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian football player . The striker has been under contract with the US MLS franchise Nashville SC since 2020 and plays for the Ghanaian national soccer team .
Career
After initially playing as a street footballer in Accra parks, Accam was discovered by a supervisor from the Right to Dream Academy . He was a member of this for four years before he received a three-year scholarship to Hartpury College in 2008 and went to England. There he played on the one hand for the college team, on the other hand he was active for the lower class clubs Ledbury Town and Evesham United . In 2011 he was part of the Nike Academy and was one of the eight players awarded in summer 2011.
In March 2012, the Swedish third division club Östersunds , under the supervision of English coach Graham Potter , signed FK Accam. There he immediately established himself as a dangerous attacker and scored nine goals in 14 games by the summer. He had drawn the attention of high-class clubs to himself, various first division clubs vied for his services. Helsingborgs IF signed him for two million crowns in August that year. Initially, a change at the end of the year was considered, but the club decided on an immediate transfer ahead of the upcoming European Cup game against Celtic Glasgow . In his first half for the club he scored three goals in ten games for the Allsvenskan , and in the 2013 season he was the club's top scorer with ten goals this season ahead of Mattias Lindström and Imad Khalili .
In May 2014, national coach James Kwesi nominated Appiah Accam in the 26-player provisional squad of the Ghanaian national team for the 2014 World Cup . On June 1, however, he was eliminated from the squad, on the same day he ran for his club in the last game of the season before the summer break and scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Falkenbergs FF . He scored a total of 17 goals for Helsingborgs IF in his third season and was the second most in the league.
Accam finally made his debut for the national team in November 2014 when he was substituted on for Uganda . At the Africa Cup of 2015 , in which Ghana came second, he was used in one game.
Start of the season in 2015 Accam moved to the US MLS - Franchise Chicago Fire and three years later on to league rivals Philadelphia Union .
