Shane Patrick Long (born January 22, 1987 in Gortnahoe , County Tipperary ) is an Irish football player who is currently under contract with Southampton FC .

Career

He started his football career at Tipperary St Michael's. At the age of 13 he moved to Cork City . In 2005 he signed a contract with the English first division club Reading FC . After six years with Reading, the 1.79 m tall forward moved to West Bromwich Albion in August 2011 .

During the winter break of the 2013/14 season, he moved to Hull City , where he signed a contract until 2017. However, he was transferred to Southampton FC at the beginning of the 2014/15 season . For this he scored the new earliest goal in the history of the Premiere League in the league game against Watford FC on April 23, 2019 after 7.69 seconds.

International matches

After appointments in the Irish U21 and the B-Elf, Long played his first international match in the jersey of the Irish national team on February 7, 2007 in the qualifying for the European Championship 2008 against San Marino .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in Ireland's squad. In all four games in the tournament he was part of the first team. After reaching the last sixteen, the team was eliminated by the hosts.
