Pierre Emile Kordt Højbjerg (born August 5, 1995 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish football player who also has French nationality . He is a Danish international and has been under contract with English first division club Tottenham Hotspur since August 2020 .

FC Copenhagen / Brøndby IF

Pierre Emile Højbjerg started playing football at BK Skjold, a club in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, where Kenneth Zohoré and Yussuf Poulsen had also started playing football. He later moved to the FC Copenhagen Football School ( School of Excellence ) . He was supposed to play as a striker there, but preferred to play in midfield himself. In the meantime, he received an offer from Copenhagen's arch-rival Brøndby IF , which Højbjerg initially rejected, but finally accepted.

In his age group he was named Denmark's “Player of the Year”. Former Bayern player Björn Andersson , who works as a scout for FC Bayern Munich , recommended him to Michael Tarnat , the sporting director of the FC Bayern youth department.

FC Bayern Munich

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, Højbjerg moved to the youth training center of FC Bayern Munich. According to his own statement, he decided against offers from clubs from Holland, Italy, England and Germany. Although he was actually intended for the club's U-19s, he only played a single game there on August 12, 2012 (1st matchday). Three days later he made his debut in the club 's second team trained by Mehmet Scholl . On April 13, 2013 (29th matchday) he came on substitute for his first Bundesliga appearance against 1. FC Nürnberg . At 17 years and 251 days, he became the youngest FC Bayern Munich player to play in the Bundesliga. He replaced the previous record holder David Alaba (17 years and 256 days). With the subsequent championship, Højbjerg was able to call himself the youngest player to ever become German champion in the Bundesliga, before Jamal Musiala won his Bundesliga debut on June 20, 2020 (33rd match day) in a 3-1 win at home against SC Freiburg at the age of 17 years and 115 days.

In September 2013, Højbjerg signed a professional contract with FC Bayern Munich that ran until the summer of 2016. In the 2013/14 season, he played 7 Bundesliga and 2 DFB Cup games, and played 14 times for the second team in the regional league. In the first half of the 2014/15 season he played 6 Bundesliga games, 3 games in the Champions League and 2 DFB Cup games for FC Bayern.

FC Augsburg

On January 8, 2015, Højbjerg extended his contract term with FC Bayern to June 30, 2018 and was loaned to league rivals FC Augsburg until the end of the 2014/15 season. On April 11, 2015, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in the game against SC Paderborn . For FC Augsburg it was the most successful season in the club's history; the fifth place in the table entitled to participate in the Europa League .

FC Schalke 04

For the 2015/16 season , Højbjerg initially returned to Bayern Munich. At the end of August 2015, it was loaned to FC Schalke 04 for the rest of the season . In the first half of the season Højbjerg played in twelve league games. There were also six games in the group stage of the Europa League and one game in the DFB Cup ; Overall, Højbjerg, who mostly played in the central or offensive midfield, came to 23 Bundesliga games for FC Schalke 04, who finished the season in fifth.

Southampton FC

National team

U national teams

Pierre Emile Højbjerg played for the Danish U16 national team from 2010 to 2011 and played in six games, including three times in the Mercedes Benz Aegean Cup . Without having played for the U17 national team beforehand , he was nominated by coach Thomas Frank for the squad for the 2011 European Championship in Serbia . There the Danish U17 reached the semi-finals and were eliminated against Germany . Højbjerg came to three missions and subsequently took part in the 2011 World Cup in Mexico with this age group. There, the Danes were eliminated after the group stage, while Pierre Emile Højbjerg came to his only tournament appearance in the game against Australia. By 2012 he was used in 18 games and scored five goals.

From 2012 to 2013 Højbjerg played six times for the Danes U19 (three goals), including five times in qualifying for the 2013 European Championship . A national team
