Career start in Southend-on-Sea

Cameron Carter-Vickers was born on December 31, 1997 as the son of the American basketball player Howard Carter and the Essex native Geraldine Vickers in the seaside resort of Southend-on-Sea on the east coast of the United Kingdom. He grew up with his siblings Kerwin and Kimberley with his mother and grandmother in Westcliff-on-Sea and attended, among others, Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School and The Eastwood Academy in Leigh-on-Sea . He spent most of the summer months with his father in the US state of Louisiana or visited his family in England. He also made an appearance for the youth of Catholic United before moving to Tottenham Hotspur's youth division in 2009 . Like his father, he also started out as a basketball player and celebrated some successes in his childhood and youth; among others with the school team of the Eastwood Academy . He helped his school team to two county championships and was considered one of the stars of the team. He was also active as a track and field athlete, taking part in three national championships and still holding school records in hurdles and shot put .

In the Tottenham Hotspur youth team

From 2009 at the latest, he was used in the youth of the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. According to different reports, he is said to have already played for the U-10 team there. However, it has been proven that he passed the age groups there quickly. Even as a real U-14 player, he made regular appearances in the Academy's U-16 team. When the time came for the players of the same age to qualify for the U-16 team, Carter-Vickers was already promoted to the U-18 squad, where he worked alongside Christian Maghoma, who was also 15 at the time played. Even at this age he was known for his size, strength and speed. Initially still in action as a striker, he finally switched to the defensive as a U-13 player and from that time on was mainly used as a central defender . After some time in the U-18 academy team, the right foot, who can be used in various defensive positions, was promoted to the U-21 team of the Spurs.

In 2014/15 he made ten of 22 possible appearances in the U-21 Premier League and was already used in 13 league games in the following season 2015/16, where he contributed one goal. While the Spurs finished the 2014/15 season in ninth place, the U-21 team took eighth place in the table in 2015/16. For the last group game of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League , Mauricio Pochettino brought him into the professional squad for the first time for a competitive game. In the 4-1 victory over AS Monaco , Carter-Vickers sat unused on the bench and did so in the second leg of the second leg against AC Florence and in the two rounds of 16 defeats against Borussia Dortmund . In the further course of the season he was not considered by Pochettino in any other competitive game.

Debut in professional football and time as a loan player

From the 2016/17 season, the American was used in what is now the Premier League 2 for the U-23 team. After he was able to convince in the pre-season at the International Champions Cup in Australia , Carter-Vickers was part of the professional squad from the first Premier League game in 2016/17 , for which he sat unused on the bench in 16 league games over the course of the season. He was also on the bench in his team’s first four games in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League . However, he made his competitive debut for the professionals on September 21, 2016, when he played 90 minutes as a central defender in the third round match of the EFL Cup 2016/17 against FC Gillingham . In the round of 16 game against Liverpool , which took place about a month later and ended in a 1: 2 defeat for Spurs, he was again in action as a regular. In January 2017 there were also two appearances in the FA Cup 2016/17 , from which the team was only eliminated in the semi-finals.

After starting the 2017/18 Premier League for Spurs and sitting on the bench, he was loaned out to English second division club Sheffield United just a few days later until the end of the season. The first two league games after the commitment still on the bench, Carter-Vickers made his debut on September 12, 2017 in a 1-0 away win over Bolton Wanderers in the Football League Championship. Chris Wilder used him from the start and for the full duration of the game, scoring the decisive goal to make it 1-0 in the 33rd minute. After that, until mid-January 2018, with a few exceptions, he was part of the regular squad on the defensive of the Blades and up to this point had made 17 league appearances, one goal and two assists; In addition, there was also a deployment in the FA Cup 2017/18 . On January 15, Tottenham Hotspur brought him back prematurely, only a few days later until the end of the season to loan him to the club Ipswich Town, which also appears in the second division . Here he was also able to quickly establish himself as a regular player in central defense and, with the exception of two games, he was used in all league games up to the 46th and final round of the championship. In the final ranking, Ipswich Town took twelfth place and thus a place in the middle of the table. At the end of the season, Carter-Vickers returned to Tottenham Hotspur in May 2018, who had meanwhile finished third, 23 points behind Manchester City and four points behind Manchester United .

National team career

In the summer of 2014, Carter-Vickers took part with an academy selection at the IMG Cup in Bradenton , Florida , where he and his team defeated the United States' U-17 selection 5-3. The United States Soccer Federation became aware of the then 16-year-old and, as he was a citizen of both the United Kingdom and the United States, guided him to the US national football team. In the same year he made his debut in the US U-18 national team . In August 2014 he was used in three U-18 internationals and was then no longer considered for this national selection. Instead, the then 16-year-old made his debut in the same year for the United States ' U-23 selection , to which he was appointed in early October. In the 3-0 defeat against Brazil's U-23s on October 14, 2014, he was used from the start and was replaced by Matt Miazga from the 61st minute of the game .

The following year, 2015, he also made his debut for the United States U-20 national team and became a regular for that selection. This qualified the United States for the U-20 World Cup held between May and June in New Zealand . The then 17-year-old was brought by coach Tab Ramos into the 21-man player selection that took part in this summer finals, making him the youngest player for the Americans. In the course of the tournament he took part in all the games of his team and was eliminated with them on penalties in the quarter-finals against his colleagues from Serbia . To be held in September of the same year Stevan- "Cele" -Vilotić -Gedächtnisturnier in Serbia and a month later in the four-nation tournament in Germany was Carter Vickers not of Tab Ramos and the subsequent him Namazi Omid considered.

However, the qualification was not made under Herzog; In third place behind Mexico (first) and Honduras (second), the Americans took part in the qualifying play-offs against CONMEBOL representative Colombia in March 2016 , failed in these and again did not take part in the Olympic football tournament after 2012 Summer games. After the English football association had already expressed its interest in the young defensive player in September 2016 , the US association tried to convince Carter-Vickers to play for the senior national team of the United States in the future at the latest. On November 6, 2016, national coach Jürgen Klinsmann was called up for the first time into the US national team. However, the team has not yet been used this year. With the U-20 team, however, he took part in a four-nation tournament in Manchester under Tab Ramos in October . Towards the end of the year he was nominated by the US Association for the Young Male Player of the Year award; lost to Christian Pulisic .

In the following year, Carter-Vickers was again increasingly used in the U-20 squad. Although not in the team that qualified for the U-20 World Cup of the same year by winning the CONCACAF U-20 championship of 2017 , he was part of the 23-man squad under coach Tab Ramos, which between May and June 2017 participated in the World Cup finals in South Korea . This U-20 World Cup ended for the Americans in the quarter-finals against Venezuela . Almost exactly a year after his first call-up to the senior national team, the now national coach Dave Sarachan brought him into the team for a friendly international match against Portugal . In the subsequent 1-1 draw on November 14, 2017, Carter-Vickers made his debut for the senior team of the United States and was in the consistently rejuvenated squad alongside Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie one of three US debutants that evening.

While he missed the first international match of 2018 against Bosnia and Herzegovina , in March 2018 he was part of a young 22-man squad preparing for a friendly international match against Paraguay . He then played against the South Americans for the full 90 minutes and then played in three more friendly international matches in May and June 2018. So far (as of June 24, 2018) it had been used in five senior international matches in the United States.
