Matthew "Matt" Miazga (born July 19, 1995 in Clifton , New Jersey ) is an American - Polish soccer player . The defender is under contract with Chelsea and is currently on loan to Reading .

Career

youth

At the age of 14, Miazga went to the New York Red Bulls Academy's U-14. In 2012 he won the US Developmental Academy National Championship with the U-16 team.

On May 30, 2013, he signed a contract as a "homegrown player" with the New York Red Bulls and moved to the first team.

Professional player

In the 2013 season , he made his debut with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer on September 8, 2013 . In 2015 he was able to establish himself as a regular player in the team's central defense .

On January 30, 2016, Miazga moved to the Premier League for Chelsea , where he signed a contract valid until June 30, 2020. He made his debut for the English club on April 2, 2016 (32nd matchday) in a 4-0 win over bottom of the table Aston Villa . Overall, however, he only made two league games in the 2015/16 season , which is why he was awarded to the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnheim for the 2016/17 season . He stayed there the following season.

In August 2018 Miazga was awarded again, this time to the French first division club FC Nantes . For this, the defender was only used eight times in Ligue 1 , the loan deal was ended prematurely in January 2019. Miazga returned to England and was loaned out to the second division club Reading FC for the rest of the season .

National team

Before Miazga appeared for the US youth team, he played a game for the Polish U-18 team in 2012 . In 2013 he played for the US U-18 team and took part in an international youth tournament in Portugal. The Polish federation continued to ask Miazga to play for their youth teams. In 2014 he was invited to two games of Poland's U-20s . However, he turned down this invitation and played for the US U-20 national team . With this he took part in the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 championship and the U-20 soccer world championship .

On November 5, 2015, Miazga announced that he was "totally undecided" about his future national team career. He made this dependent on which country, Poland or USA, invited him first for an international match of the respective senior national team. The following day he was nominated for the United States national team . He made his international debut on November 13, 2015 against the national team of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as part of the qualification for the 2018 World Cup .
